With winter out the way with it's time to get out in the countryside and have serious fun. This winter I almost gave up on sports bikes I must admit having to cope with things like -

Choppy / boneshaking ride
Aching muscles / joints
Disgraceful road conditions (thanks local council)
Baking nuts from going to slow to get cool air to nether regions
Endless cleaning to keep bike running through winter

But today, I realized just why a sports bike is THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD (and we're talking a close 2nd to sex lol)

Just got back from over 100miles of very fast a / b road work, on routes I know like back of hand... yeah I still ache abit, and my nuts did roast, but I'm grinning ear to ear at how fantastic modern bikes can feel. Even halfwit riders like me, with my crappy riding style / habits can make good progress, with the bike handling small mistakes no problem. (even though I still have a 1cm chicken strip)

Highlight of ride was 'playing' with a M5 for about 20miles on a fast sweeping B road... I wasn't gonna exceed my limits so let him pass then followed the guy. We both didn't push to hard but he had bigger balls in corners for sure, however punching out of every turn his straight line speed was pretty appauling with the old ZX reeling him in within seconds.

Other highlight was a few miles with a Elise, a quick warning to other bikers, do not underestimate these things, I've never seen a car carry so much midcorner speed, crazy crazy little motors...

I'm sorry if there is no point to this post, well other than to say Sports bikes do still fit in VERY well with UK motoring, and though many guys I know are changing to roadsters / dual purpose bikes, I think it's days like today that make you know that you will never be without one in your garage...or simply regret you sold yours.

Impractical on a day to day basis ?, they are a right PITA and at times I hate my bike, but when the old sun comes out and roads are dry, it just becomes one of the greatest feelings in the world.

Anyone else been our hooning today ?, there were a lot of decent cars out in the Dorset countryside also having heaps of fun.

How can you feel this "Freedom" when you are wrapped in layer after layer of protective leather and padding, and have a full face helmet on....

All I find is that if im having a drive specially to have a drive then bikes just get in the way on the bends, but you cant pass as they just straightline warrior everything.

I would rather have something like an Elise/Caterham that you wont die in straight away if you crash, can corner quicker and is probably just as if not a greater experience?

Sound like you have been stuck behind the wrong bikes/bikers, what car was you driving that these bikes were slowing you down?

My 306 GTI-6.

Come a bend you get a half hearted lean and they are going pretty quick ill admit, but theres still plenty left in the tank to play with before the car even thinks about running out of grip. Then come the straights ill get wasted as its not the fastest car in a straight line by any means.

not layer after layer, just thin leathers and a little armour....

dont know about bikers getting in the way, i try not to get in the way of or hold up cars, though tbh not ever had the problem (not out of my skill, but just the tool im on)

on a bike your out in the elements, part of the machine, even a sporty car is gonna feel detached in comparision... though im not knocking cars, the roads are out there for fun, whatever your driving / riding

no hooning for me. the last time i was on the road it didn't work out lol.

maybe when i get my licence back i'll hoon in a car lol. nice day though. and glad you're enjoying it.:)

Sounds like a fun day you have had. The weather has been fantastic!

Hopefully will take the CBR a run soon, been trying to make room for my next bike coming. So devoted a lot of time to that.

Flukester, i can imagine that bike of yours must be a delight to ride. A mix of amazing acceleration with some great cornering capabilities.

Been quite a lot of bikes out round here for a while, which means lots of police as well and now with the sun finally out, Bert and daisy decide its time to go out for a potter in the car and what werre once nice roads now become ruined by the sunday drivers. The joys of living near Devils Bridge.

Glad you had a good day out, just take care.

I little bit of hooning, four wheels not two today.

This.

Took the 328i for a proper drive today, brilliant weather for it, just a shame that around Reading are loads of slow people, especially in the fun twisties, still I had a great time. :D

Edit: I have a video to edit I may just post up...

Needing to get some new summer fun tyres on mine, but it seemed to cope with a full winter of commuting quite well.

Ye lots of police around here as well, I think the death toll of 5+ in 1week has something to do with that.

nice one, i can imagine your car being loads of fun... it's just a shame you get caught up behind sunday drivers easier, must drive you nuts

funny thing is you always meet sunday drivers on your favorite linked bends, grrrrrrr.. there should be a law against it :)

a nice little hoon from Surbiton to Brighton and back by way of Godalming to pick up a mate,

good fun, me on the v-rod him on his kwak 400

never really noticed myself holding any cars up because those that do keep up get held up by the next car up the road as the bike needs a much smaller overtake window to swing by things. the odd time I do i'll swing to the side and let them through (then overtake them miles down the road when they get stuck behind someone.)

got behind one of these for about 10 miles was too busy drooling to think about zipping off.

all in all good fun, feeling a bit blasted but as above beaming from ear to ear.

I got up really early this morning to head out, wife and kid were just getting up by the time I arrived home again. Was a great run out, just under 80 miles covered.

Im just back from my second run of the day :) Must hoover the house more often if I manage to get 2 runs in 1 day :p

I was playing about on the roads, pulled out of a junction put the power down fine, when I changed up to 2nd I slipped a rear wheel. :D

It is a shame about the bends though. There is a road Reading - Henley On Thames that I like at the moment, brilliant twisties, quite dangerous if you aren't careful, and some good sweeping bends, but no overtaking opportunities, which means as I had today, you get stuck behind slooooow drivers...which just makes me drop back on the power, let them get on with it, then I hoon...and catch them in seconds. :( :p

I like the idea of a bike for such things, but I just know I'd kill myself on one. :(

Playing with camera and mic.

Few bikers were ruining my fun at the 'Evo Triangle' today, well matched on the run past the lake back down to Glasfryn with the long sweeping corners but they were a major buzzkill on the windy route up. Pulled over a couple of times to let them get a good distance ahead so I could properly chuck her into the corners. :p

I was on duty today and went in on my dayshift on the Mille. Not used it for 8 months and it sailed its MoT earlier in the week.

Arrived with a huge grin on my mug and couldn't wait for the shift to end so I could ride home.

Dead roads at 6.00am Sunday morning+RSV+Twin Renegades with baffles out = biking heaven. :D
