With winter out the way with it's time to get out in the countryside and have serious fun. This winter I almost gave up on sports bikes I must admit having to cope with things like -
Choppy / boneshaking ride
Aching muscles / joints
Disgraceful road conditions (thanks local council)
Baking nuts from going to slow to get cool air to nether regions
Endless cleaning to keep bike running through winter
But today, I realized just why a sports bike is THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD (and we're talking a close 2nd to sex lol)
Just got back from over 100miles of very fast a / b road work, on routes I know like back of hand... yeah I still ache abit, and my nuts did roast, but I'm grinning ear to ear at how fantastic modern bikes can feel. Even halfwit riders like me, with my crappy riding style / habits can make good progress, with the bike handling small mistakes no problem. (even though I still have a 1cm chicken strip)
Highlight of ride was 'playing' with a M5 for about 20miles on a fast sweeping B road... I wasn't gonna exceed my limits so let him pass then followed the guy. We both didn't push to hard but he had bigger balls in corners for sure, however punching out of every turn his straight line speed was pretty appauling with the old ZX reeling him in within seconds.
Other highlight was a few miles with a Elise, a quick warning to other bikers, do not underestimate these things, I've never seen a car carry so much midcorner speed, crazy crazy little motors...
I'm sorry if there is no point to this post, well other than to say Sports bikes do still fit in VERY well with UK motoring, and though many guys I know are changing to roadsters / dual purpose bikes, I think it's days like today that make you know that you will never be without one in your garage...or simply regret you sold yours.
Impractical on a day to day basis ?, they are a right PITA and at times I hate my bike, but when the old sun comes out and roads are dry, it just becomes one of the greatest feelings in the world.
Anyone else been our hooning today ?, there were a lot of decent cars out in the Dorset countryside also having heaps of fun.
