TV licence people.

I know you all get annoyed by people hating the tv licensing people, but who do they think they are seriously ?

They send you loads of letters, and i love how everyone is different, all that tells me is that they dont need my money because they obviously have loads already if they can afford the endless letters.

They think people cant live without a tv ? i mean what ? that actully is there mindset im sure..

Ive had friends who have supposadly had the officers turning up at there doors and shouting that its illegal and there gonna get fined..

Theres plenty to be peeved about surely ? the whole thing is a ridiculous revenue collecting black hole to fund all the drivel they put on Tv these days which was dreamt up in the dark ages... its got to change

The numbers of people with TVs has slowly decreased over last few years.
The BBCs answer to this is to ask the government to change the law to include internet viewing, because people are using on demand viewing, via their PCs.

clv101 no i am afraid that would be called spying.

Just ignore it, never paid for a license and never will, if one of them inspectors come to your door just close it in their face without saying anything, nothing they can do.

I'm surprised they don't go for a warrant more often tbh. Would add some credibility to their shambles of a department.

A warrant costs money, and they won't splash out and even then they have to have reasonable doubt, just close your curtains if you live on a ground floor flat/house :D

Because it's the truth, know your rights they have no powers, they only work on what you admit.

Why should we pay for a station that mainly shows repeats etc, let it show adverts, no one cares.

So don't watch tv then. If you won't pay for it don't watch it. When I move house I'm not paying for a tv licence as I'm not hooking up the tv to the ariel, there's nothing on that I want to watch.

im interested to know about the legalities of using the internet to watch tv and listen to radio also?

As long as its not live its legal. So Iplayer etc you dont need a tv licence but if you were streaming live tv online you do.

I went into a well known catalogue shop and bought myself a cheap as chips 19" HDTV for £130 the other day. Had to fill in a form giving my name and address etc for the TV licence people to check.

What gets me is that under law you are innocent until proven guilty, but with TV licencing it's seems to be the other way around..!!!!

just phone them up and tell them you haven't got a tv. it's not really that hard..

( phone rings )

Polish Prime Minster : Hello?

( voice on phone ) : Ve are about to invade!

Polish Prime Minster : Sure, come on in.

( rolls out red carpet )

Agreed.
But then it wouldn't make a very good OcUK post and the OP wouldn't have been able to start yet another one of these TV License threads we seem to get weekly.

As for the radio in my car and my Computers:
-The radio is powered only by its own power source (albeit a big one) and so is covered by my parents TV licence, as I still reside at my parent's house for a large portion of the year. This was explained by the least threatening documentation I have from them, which was on my bed at the 1st halls I stayed in.
-The computer does not need a TV licence unless I use it to watch live television, which I don't. Although this is deliberately a massive grey area to make more people pay.

My beef is that the communication from them is all so rude, I refuse to cooperate with them at all until they stop treating me like a criminal.

The problem is with the word "live" 80% of tv shows are prerecorded and cannot be counted as live tv, live tv would be football big brother news etc.. not series , so in theory you can watch BBC itv with out a licence.
Any i recieved one today,
