creative's drivers, are they really that bad?

Not played any games with it, as it seems a bit of a gimmick to me, it just seems to add differing ammounts of reverb/chorus effects to the sound, like a cheap stereo in "concert hall" mode.

Hence I run my card with no effects, I bought it for a cleaner stereo signal and it has most certainly accomplished that, sound quality is better than onboard. just wish the fricking thing would stop crashing my system and I would be happy!!!

Just like to say, despite my above comments, and although the drivers are bad, I have an extremegamer and it works well with my 5.1 setup and is a million miles beyond onboard, I couldn't go back.

i have a xfi faitaily editon card vista x64 and no probs with my logitech setup got to admit the drivers where totaly and utter usless when vista first came out but now they seem to be fine

its driving me nuts to be honest, soes anyone know a good site for alternate drivers? using vista x64.

Daniel_K got authorisation from Creative to keep working on them so try here or more specifically here.

Been running XFi Platinum Fatality with Vista Ultimate x64, and with the Creative drivers (fromDecember last year), I got random hard lock ups. Since installing Daniel_K's drivers (from link above), the lock ups have reduced almost to zero.

Xonar D1 is £60
Xfi xtreme music is £60

I have both cards

Had the xfi since launch, it has had some terrible drivers, but creative have recently got their act together, has been running flawlessly for months now.

I reccomend both cards

Thanks for the linkage mate, will give it a whirl :D

As much as I hate the way Creative go about things & their commonly bugged drivers, I bought the PCI-E Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Champion Series 7.1 Sound Card.

Using Vista with SP1 with the latest drivers, I dont have any problems whatsover, in games, using headphones, playing music etc.

Creative have done a good job this time around, well on my setup anyway, maybe I'm just doing something right? :)

Infact when I was on Windows XP - SP2, I didn't have any problems at all using the older PCI Soundblaster X-FI Platinum Fatality - Card.

well ive just bought a second hand sounblaster x-fi extreme gamer fatal1ty pro edition sound card of the bay for a bout £30 including, it should be here by wednesday so i jhope it all goes ok thanks for all the advice

If you have all the effects turned on, ie cmss-3d most do infact turn off while gaming. So they are infact only ever working when on desktop, music, movies etc

from what ive being reading you seem to be *unbelievably* lucky

*forgive the spelling im useless

Same here i have the X-Fi - Fatal1ty and vista 64bit havent had a single issue in over a year.

Im not saying it doesn't happen a quick google search will show you thousands out there have. But for me its a been a great card, great upgrade over my old one and over onboard and touchwood asnt given me trouble to date, and in the process improved my gaming no end.

Had an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer for the past two years. Run it on XP, Vista and now Windows 7. It was causing the odd BSOD before Xmas, and the headphone volume doesn't always work, nor does it save the mic boost option, but other than that, pretty flawless.

I have had creative cards for about 10 years, used my last xfi on in vista 64, 6G memory and never had a single problem at all.

If you have problems, then its somewhere else, not the drivers.

yes motherboard sound is disabled in the bios
could it be that it is not getting enough power as the powe block on it is red
