Is Susan Boyle really that good?

Nothing happens on britains got talent though does it? I mean Xfactor I presume they do that to actually get a record deal...

The idea behind BGT is that they perform in front a member of the royal family at the Royal Variety Performance.
Of course if Cowell can make a few more bob with singers then he is going to because I can't see there being much profit in dancers & magicians.

It's not primarily her voice being good, great or whatever, it's the story, watch the whole production of the 7 minute clip for example, this is a middle aged woman who is a virgin, not been kissed, lonely, her mother died and most would think of harsh things of her say walking past her on a street.

It's a fresh movement away from the usual celeb rubbish that people follow, and a sort of a "feel good" given the climate etc.

if you listen to this its even better

nerves etc will of played a big part in that tv performance. there was a lot of people laughing at her etc which no doubt didnt help

Yes, shes a good singer, you cant deny her that fact.

Lol'z at the girl who pulls a face toward the start, i would have paid to have seen her face once Susan started singing, she probably got up and left.

Makes me laugh all the " she isn't that good of a singer " all the tripe that's about today in the charts and someone that can actually sing gets moaned about.

In relation to what happens i think the winner gets 100k then sings in front of the Royal Family as said above and if they are good like Paul Potts for example on the first series he has got a record deal with Simon and smashing records all over the world.

They were saying on the news a few days ago that Paul Potts has gone on to earn 6.5 million since his appearance on BGT.

It's funny. I look out into that crowd and I see bad teeth, bad makeup and pasty-faced chavs with tops from Mark One.

None of them should be laughing.

Since I saw it a couple of days ago it's made me wonder if when you've got reasonable talent but need that little bit of edge whether making yourself look a bit out of touch with the world and giving yourself a soft backstory would pretty much guarantee you getting your exposure. Imagine if any of those who've started like her, looking pretty unusual, showing an unusual personality edging towards mental issues, there have been hundreds and hundreds through x-factor and bgt, most of them pap, but any of them could have been as big a shock as her if they can actually sing.

Chick look like a dude...?! oh dear, i think its shock that someone of that visual appearance can produce something that is almost pleasurable to ones ear...

but if it was some hot 18 year old im sure it would have similar publicity just less of the snide variety...

Ant and Dec are so annoying, just seeing that footage made me want to kill them.

I thought I was the only one! They are the worst thing to come out of Britain. I don't think their bad presenters, I just cringe at their cheesy schoolboy demeanor.

@susan, the reason everyone loves her is because she is so plain/old looking and happens to be able to sing decently. Its just surprising, people love surprises.

No they wouldn't because what has touched the public is the surprise factor.
She stood on the stage and the millions of viewers were taking the pee.
I didn't because I looked at the time, knew it was the last act on and thought even though she looked/acted 'special needs' she might be a surprise.
I didn't anticipate how much of a surprise because she is very good BUT there are probably 1000s who are just as good as her.
100+ million views is basically because the panel/audience were made fools of.

What I'm surprised is that Cowell should have got her first single out by now and they would have cleaned up internationally.

average and didn't really sound that great.

its all about the stupid backstory, i guarantee that last year, that kid who was a right weena and was bullied or whatever for singing. If he was 6ft tall and not a complete weena, there wouldn''t of been the massive exposure the weena kid got.

I wouldn't say the word normal, but i think most people no what i ment by saying no "normal" people would do to well. George sampson??? what was his backstory again??

his mam died or he was in care, or something else everyone feels sorry for him for.

The only real British talent to come from that show is Paul Potts. Genuine guy who won on merit not a sob story and very talented.

He was tutored by Pavarotti iirc. And remember him walking along a beach, staring wistfully into the sea as his voice over informed us of how much he was bullied at school. And that "I just want people to see me for who I am. I'm Paul Potts" (cue dramatically rising crescendo of uplifting music).

These people may not come to these shows presenting a sob story, but the producers will always find one and make sure we see it. EVERYONE has a sob story.
