Who's ditching C0 I7 for D0?

I did and very disapointed  Get same Temps at same speed. I receive it today and Update with lates bios so not point really just trow away £50 for nothing

Exactly. You probably went from a good C0 chip to a bad D0 chip. With the randomness of CPU overclocking performance, I wouldn't shell out £50 for the chance of a few more MHz. I'm going for D0 because I'm buying new, and the £4/£20 over retail/OEM doesn't matter as much, but if I already had a C0 chip, unless it was a very poor overclocker, there's no way I'd swap.

Not me, as I am stable @3.86 and could easily go 4.0 and did for a while but there's really no point in it. I don't buy into all the hype of it anyhow. People are posting temps without telling mobo's and coolers so who knows if it's really the chips. I have seen some DO screenies that looked good, and others that were identical to my current temps and volts. Low volts huh? Well I'm @ 1.18volts with that 3.86ghz and can run prime95 till my heart explodes. It's not convinced me.

Like others have said, the batch makes a difference. Could be the only reason for any variances in what we are seeing on here.

The only thing "good" about these new chips is the lower volts ... if I knew I would get same clock for less volts I would pay. But random is you say ...

As said, if you already own a C0 thats hitting 3.6-3.8 it's not worth it, If I was buying new I'd buy a D0 one for the mjnor difference in price. Luckily for me not everyone feels that way, I've bought a C0 thats been good for 3.9 because the owner wants a D0. I've paid £175 for his "old" cpu

I cant wait to get my D0.

My system upgrade :

920 I7 D0
Asus Extreme II X58 DDR3
- Not sure on memory, will have to think about it.

my other system components are pritty much sweet.

1000W Galaxy

Just gathering funds.

Got a Q that does 3.6 for sale aswell as my OCZ pc9200 that does 1200mhz 2x2 configuration aswell as Asus Rampage Formula x48 for sale.

so with the funds from those i wont be to short to get the cpu memory and mobo.

I will though for sure get the Domino Watercooler Kit as that Kit looks and performs awsomely with I7s and Qs. 50c load temps @4.3ghz aint to shabby on a I7 with it.

TBH thats a good price he got there.
I wouldn't buy a C0 for anything less than 150 now

I did....

Sold my C0 for £175...so lost £65...gulp, oh well all fun and games :)

I was at 3.8Ghz with the C0 and am at 4.05Ghz with the D0. Only had it in 5 hours so am testing what works good...Prime has been 2 hours stable so far at 4.05Ghz\HT on\1.275v in bios. CPU-Z reads 1.28v though when loaded due to vdroop setting being on.

Don't think I'll get more than 4.1Ghz, but I'm happy only wanted 4Ghz to be honest, more of an OCD itch than anything.

Temps are awful though, worse than the C0 at an equivalent voltage by far (currently at 84\83\80\79) Hot but who cares, they charge a premium for the chips cos they know overclockers like them. So they can suffer the warranty replacement in return for giving me the shaft if it comes to that...Although I'm not going to go over 85c. (not purchased from ocuk btw) :)

you mean more than >? way I see it q6's weren't too far fof £165/170 not so long back, so I might get "stuck" with an i7 at 3.8, as many folk on here predict that a decent c2d/quad will last a while yet I'm not worried that my £175 investment will go far wrong.

If I was big on overclocking and it was a genuine interest in itself as opposed to a by product of my main interest ( computers in general ) then perhaps it'd be a poor choice.

I'm chuffed to bits and more so that my mobo was free ! I've gone c2d e5200 > i7 920 for nowt. I'm thinking of calling it the chaos shuffle, go on, give it a go you know it makes sense

jobs a good un ;)

If you crave every last ounce of performance then D0 might seem like a good move but you are still taking a chance with the new stepping imo.

To be honest, I won't even upgrade to a 4 core Westmere... Gulftown is a more substantial upgrade, however, I think that my current Nehalem will handle everything I can throw at it until Sandy Bridge or (hopefully) Haswell. Of course, the GFX card will need upgrading before then!

What happened to the early shouts that Gulftown would have 32 cores?!

maybe some server version with 32 cores (64 w/HT) will come out soon :D

If you already have a normal i7 you've got to be MAD and a fool buying a D0 to replace it, its just not worth it at all..

Well I had a C0 and it wouldn't overclock well, so I left it at the stock 2.8, got myself a D0 instead and now run at 4 ghz HT on. Will probably push it further if I get watercooling. It's not mad to replace with a D0 if you get a chip that can go over 4ghz?
