Best way to insure a Rover 420 diesel and a 200 Vi at the same time?

I need to insure both the 420 diesel and the 200 Vi I'm soon to be getting at the same time.

On the 420 my policy runs until Feb, but the insurers will not touch the Vi at all, so can't do it with them.

What would be the best way to get them both covered? I'm going to have both for a bit, then sell the diesel :)

Thanks :)

Find another insurance company for the Vi? ... then insure it.

You'll be able to get proof of no claims I would think and send it to them if you have any.

Suddenly everyone loves the Vi? :p

Tbh the last few days I have noticed how big and heavy it really is, and how I don't need a car that big. It's lovely, but just not what I need right now, but if you're all sure I'll enjoy a Vi that much over the derv I'll get my ass in gear and hunt harder :p

Edit: Still not sure about reliability, thats why the 420 will be hanging around for a little bit once I get the Vi.

In all fairness, if the 420XLD is putting out what he thinks it is (or near to), then I doubt it will be "miles" better, and it certainly won't be as easily tunable (turbo ***).

I think he should either stick with what he has (given he does 25,000 miles a year, the diesel is suited to the task AND he already owns it) save up, and get something good in Feb when his insurance expires. Or, he should get something cheap but relatively powerful now.

I don't think the Vi really falls into the category of "worthy upgrade".

The Vi has 142bhp and weights nearly 200kg less than the 420. It's going to take an awful lot of tuning to make the derv as quick as the Vi. The Rover 200 with the K series is also quite economic for the performance, so driven steadily (ha!) it shouldn't cost much more to run. However, for longer motorway trips the 420 would be the better choice of the two.

OcUK in Rover and Corsa recommendation shocker. What's going on!?

Ive always thought the 200 was a good cheap little hatchback. I would actually go as far to say that it is the best cheap little hatchback. Ideal for new drivers who want decent poke and drive for little insurance due to their understated profile. :)

Recent estimates put the power at between 125 and 135bhp, we shall find out at the RR day.

And the Vi seems to fit, cheap and relatively powerful? It is both :)

At the moment fuel economy is about 35mpg  hooning can't have make a diesel drink! God knows what I could do in a Vi :p

I'm also running out of options for tuning the derv, people have lifted their cylinder heads at 170bhp lol!

Is it really nearly 200kg less? I didn't actually know that! :)

I did a trip to Land's End in my old 416i and I am doing the same trip again this year, however will likely be in the Vi rather than the 400. Hope it's not too bad!

I'm seeing 38mpg on Parkers combined. I'm some hoof and the VVC will take care of that :p
