Predator franchise to be revived...

:( why can't they just leave the classics alone

So you're saying that you don't want any new films featuring the Predators? Pretty strange thing to want, especially if you class the original Predator movie as a classic.

Personally I can't wait for it.

Robert Rodriguez is ace, I shall look forward to this. :)

(Oh, sorry, was the correct response supposed to be OMG NOT THE CLASSICSSSS MY MEMORIES OF THE PAST ARE TARNISHED)

Ditto.

It might turn out to be crap but they are in fact leaving the classic alone, making a new film doesn't suddenly make the old films rubbish:confused:

Will be interesting to watch the leadup to it, I think Rodriguez could do it well. Only thing is why really I dont feel the need to reboot this franchise apart from the money.

Rodriguez has been trying to get his "Predators" script made for years, but no studios would back him. The "community" was hopeful that the only good thing to come out of the AvP movies would be the box office pull for him to finally make his way in, and it looks like he has. That's good news for everyone.

The script itself was available online not long ago. Will check with a few sources and see if I can pull a copy.

I know he had as script where Arnie & Danny Glovers characters were captured and taken to the Predator homeworld to be made into trophies, and they have to escape. Would be cool to see that now, but can't see it happening, with the original characters at least.

I doubt it will be the same without the original characters, they made the films IMO.

Will be interesting to see the script though and it can't be any worse than AvP 2 which was one of the worst films I have ever seen!

Hopefully this can revive the franchise after the dross that was both AvP movies.

And at least it's a new movie, and not a remake.

After all that hype with requiem and it was just a disaster in the end lol worser the the 1st one....

It had the potential but none of the scenes ever worked...

I think a new Predator film is just what the entire Alien/Predator franchise needs, a redo wouldnt work imo but just a good solid Predator film would.

The news isn't particularly good, in my opinion, but anyway :

Apparently Rodriguez' original screenplay, "Predators", which he wrote for fun starts off on a Spanish Galleon (in space I think????) which gets attacked by Predator-cloaked individuals. These turn out to be humans using Predator technology who are looking for Arnie's character, Dutch. They take him into custody, however are all then captured by Predators who are also after him for killing the one in the first movie.

Most are killed, but Dutch and a few of the human mercenaries are taken to the Predator homeworld, where the Predators have loads of creatures from across the universe in captivity, forcing them to take part in gladiatorial arena combat.

Dutch, an alien youth and one of the mercenaries escape and have to fight their way off the planet, basically.

I really hope the story has changed a LOT since the first draft.

The predator series have many, many books and history/(lore?) to it, would be nice if they showed more of that.

There's a short interview with Robert Rodriguez over on AICN. He talks about the treatment that he wrote that was set on a jungle-like Predator planet. They're trying to find a writer and director but it's unknown whether the movie will be based on his treatment.

"...With a nod toward Cameron's ALIENS I decided to call it PREDATORS. I set it on a jungle-like Predator planet. It was just a writing assignment, so I didn't have to worry about budget constraints or how the movie would actually get made with the technology that existed back then, so I just wrote any cool thing I could come up with.

Fast forward 15 years to when I got a call from Alex Young over at Fox, who had been digging around and found my original treatment. He was eager to get it made and re-invent the Predator franchise using the treatment as a guide. So he contacted me to see if I'd be interested in being involved, and it seemed like the perfect project for us over at Troublemaker Studios..."

Arnie gets a mention but they haven't approached him about making some kind of appearance. There's also a little info about the rating. Rodriguez says they haven't discussed the rating yet but his treatment was very "R". Thanks to CELTICPRED for the news.
