Concerns Of Global Epidemic

Examine enough people at any time and you'd find a lot of people in the population with the symtoms they are looking for.

Like looking for a piece of hay in a giant stack of needles.

I think their techniques for determining who is and isn't infected might be a little more advanced than just asking random people if they have a runny nose.

Lots of scaremongering involved in this, but it is pretty scary to be honest. Just looking at the Google maps tracker thing and there are cases popping up all over the world. A family have fallen ill after returning from Mexico apparently, in Northamptonshire.

But the reassuring thing (at the moment) is not a single death outside Mexico!

UPDATE:

Health Secretary Alan Johnson told the Commons 25 cases of possible swine flu had been reported in the UK and three are awaiting specialist test results.

Mr Johnson said eight cases had proved to be negative, and that the remaining 14 were undergoing initial investigation but were well enough to be managed in the community.

Among the cases that were reported were two people in Scotland and a Canadian visitor to Sale, Greater Manchester, who was taken to hospital as a precaution after showing flu-like symptoms.

A case has been confirmed in Spain so it's only a matter of time until it hits us and the rest of Europe.
