Well, I've got it now.....

I dont spend a huge amount of time here mate but I have read the review you posted before. Dont' feel snubbed, input from informed soruces is always valuable. You never saw how I used to drive my mondeo :D

If its on finance I would seriously suggest using your statuary cooling off period and cancel it without delay, they are a total waste of money.

I did not go into this with my eyes closed, far from it.

But in your first post, you said

I know they can be somewhat thirsty but I reckon if I take it easy most of the time, it won't cost much more than the 2.0 mondeo I part-exd.

We're not trying to be harsh, but you're either fooling yourself about how much it is going to cost, or you DID go in with your eyes closed.

I'd suggest you sit down, work out how much it is going to cost in fuel (probably twice what you paid before, then you have vastly increased servicing costs and buying all that oil). Let your head rule your heart when spending this much money.

I really like them, although IMO they need a spoiler to really set them off.

RX7 was nicer though, fantastic looking car

Let him live with it. If he can cope with it then fair play. If he can't keep up with it's oil and fuel usage then he can sell it on and probably lose a bit of money and put it down to experience.

its his first proper car.

It will be fun for a while, and then he can chop it in for something else when he gets fed up of the fuel and oil costs and gets an aching for something faster.

i do miss mine :( but i dont miss the running costs lol I remember one time mazda charging me £300 for a full service and change of plugs, I nearly cried :(

but hey if you can afford it enjoy :D

Hope you enjoy your purchase, they are nice cars. Had a 56 reg Prodrive 230bhp special edition. It used to drink the fuel, 40-50 quid for 150 miles depending on petrol prices, think i worked it out i was getting 15 mpg round the doors :(
Was'nt as bad for me for using oil like some have said but then i only did 10000 miles in the 2 years i had it. Never had bother with it flooding, always started first time.
Never had any problems with it, just got sick of getting my wallet out for petrol :D
You should have a look at a 230bhp if the deal on a 190bhp is'nt done, only lose 1mpg but it drops 0-60 time by a second, you would use the same amount oil, pay bout the same insurance think 230bhp is a group higher & the car would have a 6th speed gearbox & xenon lights, dont think 190bhp had them as standard.

Fellow petrol station fanatic here.

That's mine. 05, Velocity Red, 31,500 miles (bought at 27xxx at the start of February), 231PS. The lowest I've got from a ~£50 tank is 240 miles (with some serious thrashing), whereas I've done a couple of economy tanks recently and got startlingly close to 285 on one, which isn't THAT bad at all for an RX-8. However, as you can tell by my pictures, I live next to a farm (in the sticks a little) and therefore the vast majority of my driving is done out of town.

Paid £8.5k, but got a generous-ish 3.5k trade-in for a 54k mile 05 1.4 diesel Fiesta with a crack in the windscreen.

its his first proper car.

It will be fun for a while, and then he can chop it in for something else when he gets fed up of the fuel and oil costs and gets an aching for something faster.
This is so true for me. It's costing me the wrong side of £200 a month sometimes accounting for both fuel and oil, but it's brilliant fun, especially through corners and it's my first 'proper' car. However, I already have an itch for a top end A3, a Z4, a TT or... if I somehow find 10 grand/a lot of patience, a Cayman.

Insurance is pretty good, though, considering it's group 17. I live in a B post code area, I'm a teacher, 22, and when my second year of NCB comes in at the start of May I'll be getting it down into 3 figures with Admiral or Elephant.

Enjoy the car - Winning Blue is a really nice colour, especially on the RX8's.

Yes, the fuel bills will be big. You'll be sick of topping up oil, and wince each year when you go to tax it. But youve got a nice looking and driving car for (hopefully) little cash - you should really enjoy driving it.

It's not a lazy mans car - you have to thrash it to get the best out of it - but driven like this it's a lot of fun!
