be*

Strange... I download AT LEAST 400gig a month and have NEVER had anything from Be*.

Be* pride themselves on NOT dishing out letters or capping one's service.

I hadn't heard anything from them when i was doing the same amount as yourself but I can't see this carrying on forever far to many people abusing it now I can see o2 bringing in some form of limits then Be will follow or raise prices.

So why would anyone go with be if that was the case?

I asked the same on Thinkbroadband forums, and this is the reply I got from a guy who seemed pretty knowledgeable about teh stuff -

For games Be is the preferred choice over O2 because the user has control over interleaving through their control panel (on the Unlimited Pro packages), or an even more effective control of it by a phone call to support. (Be support also turn of another form of error correction which may affect latency when they turn off interleaving). O2 are very reluctant to turn off interleaving.

On those packages the user also has rudimentary control of their target SNRM but on O2 it can only be done through support. (Tweaking via a suitable router is possible of course on either, but not with the supplied router and standard firmware).

he also linked me to this, which is a very good comparison -

I prefer the service from Be* and they gave me a free day on my birthday!

it's the little things that make a good company!

Isnt the service the same?

If the price is £17.99 and the O2 is £12.99

Then you could look at it that they charge you an extra £60 for your birthday.

Doesnt sound as good now does it? ;)

Get fastpath enabled along with a 3db profile and you should reach the max which is 24574 kbps.

This is me.
ADSL Link--- Downstream / Upstream
Connection Speed ---24574 kbps / 1386 kbps
Line Attenuation--- 13.5 db / 6.9 db
Noise Margin--- 5.9 db / 4.0 db

Trip, can you explain more about fast path? edit: should have wikied

My stats are as follows:

Link Information

Uptime: 0 days, 4:53:59
Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,313 / 17,098
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.0 / 22.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 6.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / µ
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 21 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 18,980
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 22,969 / 29
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 65,919 / 16

Any idea if my line is good enough to take off interleaving? Would love lower ping times :)

Harder or impossible?

What is fastpath?

As the rest of it has been answered...

Most people haven't had any luck getting it enabled. Those of us that did had it sorted out by a kindly ocuk forum member (that works at o2 obviously) but unfortunately some idiot gave their name in a complaint and understandably they are no longer able to sort fastpath out for people.

if you read my previous post i rang Be* and said i was joining o2 and they dropped my monthly bill to £12 for Be* unlimited package!

so it's actually cheaper for me on Be*!

Personally I hate it when companies do that. It makes you feel like you have been getting conned if they could have done it for a cheaper price to begin with. You phone them up and they go "Oh you caught us, how naughty of us when we could have been doing it for cheaper all the time..."

And you think that makes them a better service? Sounds like they are trying to get every penny out of you that they can.

same thing happened to me, they couldn't match o2's deal but they gave me the 24meg for £12 for life, I also got a free month out of it (tried for the 3 free months o2 were offering but it didn't work)

I think I've been with them 3+ years now and have not had many problems, just the odd upgrades at the exchange giving downtime, but I always get some email before hand notifying

one thing though the router they provide (speedtouch older one) was terrible especially wireless dropouts (tried to fix it with them but they did advise trying another router out of my own pocket )

I'm using a netgear DG834PN now (DG834GT before this) and both have been great

Overall they have been great, dont have any reason to move from them.. yet
