I look forward to it!
I'll time my macs and see how they fair!
When you do the timing, load the forums up as soon as possible to see how long ie takes to load and loads it's page.
18 month OS X install on a MBP with loads of **** to load this page:
31 seconds.
(Oh and it had to initialize a network sharing connection to my MP in that time)
As for the bickering. You can bicker all you want.
For some of us this £750 "apple tax" on a Mac Pro is most certainly worth it.
Erm...why? I wont be loading IE from my Core i7 machine...I will be loading it from my Q6600 machine cos thats what I am going to use to make the video and upload said video...
Right...guess I may have exaggerated a little lol...I timed my PC to boot up...and it took roughly 50secs...however...I will say this...I actually had in my possession about a month back a Power Mac G4 I was fixing for someone...I timed the boot up on that and I can tell you it certainly didnt take 15 secs to boot up...not at all...actually took about 1min to boot up. Granted its a Power Mac G4...but you would still expect it to boot up quicker with it being a Mac.
Then again. How old is a PM G4?Over 6 years old!
Don't know why your PC takes 50 seconds to boot dude, mine takes 25 seconds from POST![]()
And as for the time to load up to the forums from pressing the power button...what exactly is that meant to prove? The fact that you have a Mac doesnt make you a bigger person than I am. The real big difference is that your stuck with the hardware you have, so if u want to upgrade its going to cost u more money...I on the other hand can upgrade to my hearts content and not have to worry about where I can get my new hardware cos its readily available.
But I have to say this has been a very interesting thread, but I will have to stop there. It's been a pleasure![]()
I will say this to finish off:
Mac and PCs are like husband and wife. We can agree to disagree. End of.![]()

Since Apple bought Emagic, Logic can only be run on macs. Fair enough it isn't considered industry standard for music production (unlike Pro Tools which is avalible on both Mac and PC) but if you are say, a music producer/engineer like myself, Logic is a fantastic DAW. I'm interested to see how far open source Linux distro, Ubuntu Studio can go as it is based on the same core technology UNIX. Although, as far as I am concered, as long as "PC"s are running Microshaft PCs they only good for two things; gaming and overclocking. Stability or security not even entering into the sentence.
The issue at hand from the OP wasnt whether or not you or I are "big persons" but more "What, given my current setup, would be the best upgrade path for me? Mac or PC?"..
In terms of flexibility I definately agree that the PC wins hands down. But this thread wasn't originally based upon "what would run crysis better - Mac or PC?" OR "What boots quicker/responds from hibernation - Mac or PC?". I hope my post hasn't come across as being too opinionated here!!!
It's like a Bugatti Veyron beating a Ferrari 360 from 0-60 yet I bet on a longer distance the 360 could perform better...![]()
The only thing a 360 is going to beat a veyron on is fuel economy, there really is no comparison.
That's gotta be the worst analogy i've ever seen![]()
