They said it sounded like I was smashing a window. I had just shot my car and missed, right in their direction as they were walking past, so the potato slug must have flew through the bush past them

Air? Pfft, air is fail.
I made one a few years ago out of pvc piping, some tutorial off youtube, fill the compression chamber with hairspray, hit it with a bbq lighter and a massive chunk of potato shoots out of it at about 400mph, went straight through my garden fence. Was great until the chamber melted.

Mine is rated to 300psi safe, so i reckon i could push it to 400psi. At 100psi i got a golfball 115meters.

nope, hes got a water valve on it to stop the air coming straight out. Although because it's potato, it would dry, so personally i would pump it then put the potato in then let rip.
