Almunia In Goal For England ?

Hope Green gets a chance, if he can show the form he has been this season then he could be the answer. I think he's excellent!

If he were 24-27, i'd say yes, but at 31 no point.

Yeah coz at 31 he only has maybe about 8 years at the top left

Hargreaves was born in Canada. You don't want him to play?

Remind me who this is again? ;)

lol, you have to laugh at the age and spanish 3rd choice arguments. Lets put it this way... blah blah blah...

I'm impressed you used paragraphs this time but the OP was about the goalie not the rest of the real English players. ;)

No. I don't.

Not only because of this but because he barely plays for his club.

Nothing to do with one of those things called an injury, then?

And, if almunia wants to play for england, and is plays well enough to get chosen, he should be.

That's bleeped up. If there was such a thing as a British football team then fine, let him play for that, but why should British citizenship allow him to play for the English team?!

I like manuel but i only think he's commenting on this to try and get the spanish team to give him a call up, i think he deserves a least a friendly match to recognise his ability, even if they do have better keepers.

You have to take this story with a pinch of salt i think, it's the papers who keep bringing this up not the player or his manager, they are the ones who ask the questions and then bend the story to appeal to the typical tabolid reader and sell papers.

Almunia has never actively made a move to play for england, i don't even believe he's said whether he'd become an english citizen, he may be eligible but then he already has indefinite residency. It's all total conjecture thats been hyped up by the same journalists who kicked up a fuss about having a non english manager.

Whole load of nothing in my opinion, never going to happen.

It was hilarious on soccer saturday, Phil Tompson being incredibly bigoted and blind. He catagorically stated that James was far better than Almunia, then in the game that followed James makes an awful blunder that costs a goal, the kind he's very prone to making while Almunia got nothing wrong in the game at all.

Green was better last year than this year, more mistakes though not many this year he's been infront of a largely improved defence thats been fantastic this year. I think Green IS the English no 1 right now, James shouldn't really be in the setup for me as Green is better, should be first choice, James is almost done and won't improve beyond other england players so the likes of Foster and Kirkland should be getting their chances for experience.

If when the world cup came around James is the same level as now and Foster/Kirkland haven't improved then maybe pick him as backup, but Foster/Kirkland aren't going to get experience or better without games while James is as good as he'll get so extra games does very little for him at this stage.

Like I said, I couldn't care less if Almunia is picked or not, he's better than anything we have though not massively. But it won't matter who we put in goal, we won't win anything so who the hell cares.

Its another media story trying to distract people from the real issues, like the crap teams Capello choses and the lack of real quality in the players people want to be playing, Downing, lennon, SWP, Heskey, James, Crouch. We won't win anything with those guys in the team so why are they in the setup at all. Beckham actually bothering to play football in real leagues again makes him far and away the best choice at right wing, Young is unquestionably the best choice for left wing, we have plenty of good defenders and plenty of good central midfielders and strikers. Its the 2/3 completely inept players that are the difference.

WE'll get to the finals, easily, our group is pathetic. We'll go out as per usual in a quarter final if we're lucky playing pathetic football, Capello will either leave or get a 20million pay off then we'll go and get someone else who will pick the team the media/public want, not the team we need, pay them even more again with an even bigger payoff when we fire them for failing.

All we need is a manager who will not be an FA puppet and not pick whoevers most often on the back pages of the Sun.

Would he really want to lower himself to playing for England? :p

If I were him I'd rather hold out for the miniscule chance of playing for Spain... it's not like he'll be missing any trophies.

It doesnt matter how good he is. His only link to England is working in the country. There is no comparison to the likes of Hargreaves who has two English parents. The man has no link to England and therefore shouldnt be selected on that basis alone.

Im scottish and we have gone down this road to a certain extent but not quite this far. If scotland are crap they should be crap with scottish players, or players who have a justifiable link to the country.

It would be the thin end of the wedge if almunia is selected.
