Anyone got their SE xperia!!! what do you think?

Just eBayed it, back to an iPhone now. Excellent for TomTom and wowing people with the slide out KB, terrible for calls, reception, SMS, general usage. Any OS bar WM and it would have probably been a winner for me. I was a bit of a fool for thinking WM 6x would have been better than it's previous incarnations.

Apparantly there is a very active project for getting Android up and stable on the X1 though...

im waiting on my 4th xperia, the crap SE service center is my biggest dislike, other than that its a nifty phone :)

what problems have you had to be on your 4th? where you get it from?

hasn't the reception problem been fixed yet? is it really that bad for general day to day use like calls, sms etc?

Problem I found was holding it side on meant covering the antenna, which killed reception. So when you've finished writing your email or SMS, you've got to wait 15-30 seconds to get reception back again. Granted this didn't happen everywhere, but certainly more often than not when sending one of the above.

I think there are radios out with better reception, but after having tried a couple they didn't make a massive difference to me.

If you're in a strong reception area, then you should be OK but for me I'm in a 2 or 3 bar area so it would drop out more often than not. :(

Its quite annoying to open the pad and type when searching for a contact plus you have to turn the back light off otherwise you may end the call accidently.

Receiving a call: To answer press the fiddly green telephone triangle on the front, or press the fiddly thin "Receive" button on the screen on the left hand side. If you're smart you disabled the screen in call with Xperia Tweak.

Making a call: Press fiddly green button, then keypad and punch in number. Or go to fiddly contacts menu, scroll down the list with the annoying scroller (or punch in name with KB open, then lose signal), select contact. Wait for reception to come back in, make call.

Obviously this won't be the same for everyone, but that's the rig morale I went through most times when sending/receiving calls.

I bought mine online. My original one cracked after 3 weeks, it went back to sony they sent me an exchange xperia which was cosmetically speaking a disaster. That one got sent back, my 3rd arrived last friday and won't pick up a network at all, it just constantly searches, they are now doing a door stop exchange for a new one. This has been going on 7 weeks :S

Or just install PointUI Home2 as you main GUI and set up to 12 one-touch contacts :p

I tried Home, had some glitches with it though. Main one for me was the amount of steps to get a wifi connection - which was WMs saving grace, the icon was at the top. Or with the Sony X1 panel had a quick access button on the front.

Also, as nice as Home is it was always a massive disappointment to see WM seeping through the cracks every now and then - was a reminder that you were just using an app on top of an OS. For me this really detracted from the whole user experience.

You can install it, then use Xperia Tweak to load it as the defaut panel when the phone starts. Although if you've got a SIM lock pin you'll have all sorts of faffing about to get the phone up after a restart.

Phone on --> loads WM 6.1 splash --> pin entry appears although doesn't respond --> normally allows you to get 2/3 numbers in before panel loads with phone disabled --> skip back to panel screen, SE panel to disable/renable phone to get SIM pin screen up again --> change to panel you want again.

It's annoyances like the above that wore me down in the end, really simple things that all add up to a PITA end user experience.

There are a bunch of applets that allow for easy wifi access.

That's all subjective, having been a WM user since 2003, have a a front end just made something I was comfortable with much better.

I also don't use PIN locks, so I guess the niggles you found don't apply to me.

I had a little play with one today and my first impression is that, it's impressive piece of kit. As a result, I've just ordered one on-line from mobiles.co.uk. :) Hopefully I won't regret it.

Depends what your usage is... it is one impressive bit of kit overall but quite a few niggles - most of which software wise can be worked around, but theres no fix for the rubbish camera.
