Just saw a UFO!!!!

Satellites don't suddenly move from being still and certainly don't vanish - if the Op's account is accurate.

Thanks for the little edit...

When staring at the nights sky, as with stars, things come into focus the longer you look. I'm sure he wasn't focusing on the exact star that 'started' moving.

Chances are he noticed the movement, his brain convinced him immediately it was aliens and this 'UFO' passed across the sky.

As for disappearing, probably cloud cover, his poor eyesight or his brain deciding it would be a better story if it vanished all of a sudden. It can be pretty easy to lose track of what you're staring at.

But yeah, he couldn't identify it, so technically it is a UFO. Only in magicks dictionary, UFO = Aliens.

Aliens exist somewhere, whether they are intelligent enough to be watching us in the sky who knows but probability of alien life is far too high to brush off with a magick joke!

yeah but what are the odds an alien race capable of FTL travel can't conceal themselves from the naked eye?

Satellites become visible when light is reflected from their solar panels at a suitable angle. As the satellite moves across the sky their effective brightness changes. They will often seem to disappear mid-sky (just like the ISS if you've ever seen it).

Looked very similar to that video also in terms of speed as well. Though I'd say the object/ufo I just saw was traveling slightly faster. Like I said ^^^ isn't the ISS constantly orbting? If it was the ISS how can it have remained stationary before it started moving?

Because the Earth is also rotating, it might've entered a temporary geostationary orbit whilst you were looking at it. If it were actually not moving, it should appear as though it were moving from our perspective, unless we were all about to die.

Could be a meteor - if it's heading away from you at the right angle it could appear to be moving slower than you'd normally expect.

It'll be one of the hundreds of satellites (if not thousands) that criss-cross the sky. You can reguarly see them (depending on light pollution) every few minutes.

We've been up in Cumbria with work the past few weekends were the light pollution has been negligible, as a result we've been able to see dozens of these 'UFO's' whilst enjoying a few beers after finishing work. Of couse, Stellarium with the satellite plug-in helps ;)
