New Track Day Car

Spie, have you considered a GT-R? Its bang on budget and can be modded with some spare cash into a cracking track machine :D
Heavy though. You need something lighter to go fast on the track. I remember when I had the Radical there were often ultra-high power Skylines that were superfast on the straight but terrible round corners.

how about this for a curve ball

Litchfield Impreza Type 25

http://www.type-25.co.uk/

Porsche Brakes, Cosworth built engine with 415bhp, but good for 600 + if your mad enough. Fully adjustable suspension

0−60mph in 3.7sec
0−100mph in 8.7sec

but from the outside a comparatively normal looking impreza.
Not for me. It's a tuned Scooby and they don't do that well on the track.

There is a reason that most of my mates run GT3/GT3RS's, CSL's or both as track toys.

If you can afford/justify one then get a GT3/GT3RS if you can't and want similar abilities if delivered in a different way and for less money get a CSL. Both will last, run hard, be as quick as pretty much anything else out there and not let you down if used a lot. The 996 GT3 is more raw than the 997 but the 997 is easier to exploit. Both the GT3's and CSL's have very special engines which is why I'd take one over a KTM.

you'd be surprised how well the litchfield type 25 did

It was the 2006 time attack champion.

The Subaru's impressive laptime also managed to beat all of the open wheel competitors (by over 0.8sec) who were running lightweight Atoms and turbo charged Daxs.

not good on track eh ?

have you read the OP? hes already owned one and wants somethin more practical 2nd time round.

When I had the Radical nearly every road legal car that did well on the track was a Porsche. Only exception was Tax Evader's CSL but I just don't fancy one.

Every other road car including Ultimas, Nobles, Evos, Skylines etc were so much slower it was staggering.

I'm going to look down the Porsche route.

Consider a more odball choice.

The group B rally cars that knock around pistonheads (not sure how they'd fare on a track against modern machinery though I'm sure it'd be a lot of fun)
McLaren F1 - see it as an investment :p
Jag XJ220 - It'd be faster than most until you hit a corner
Cerbera Speed 12 - If it's still going, I'm sure it'd be a handfull.
etc

I agree.. that and you dont want to look like a complete twonk! Which if you are caught driving an xbow on the roads.. you would.

So really its CSL / GT3 / Z06.. and thats a real toughie.

edit: Right so a CSL is out.. that leaves two options..

I've got a better idea.. get a Zonda..

Fair enough people recommending these overpowered lightweights ala x-bow/r500/atom, but for me any track day purchase would have to be taken on a european tour, the nordschleife, spa francorchamps, stelvio pass etc. Can you imagine driving any one of those cars on a journey like that. Wouldn't be a lot of fun doing huge miles. And the OP already stated that he can't be bothered with trailering.

For me I would have to choose a lightweight version of a road car, (csl, rs, etc.) Ideal for track work, but sensible to drive on the road, and plently of scope for improvements.

Just my 2p.

Tom.

my goodness, i cannot imagine ever being in your position. A 599 to drive on one continent, and now wanting a track based car to drive to uk circuits. /jealousy.

buy an M3 CSL though! can you tell they're my favourite car yet? :D
If it was me in your position, I wouldn't think twice about buying one.

Maybe this will sway you. Just listen to it! aural heaven.

Sold last time for about £180k I think, they were trying to sell it at £125k a while back but apparently it's back up nearer the 180k mark again now. If I had the money, absolutely no question I'd have this in my garage and pay to have it working in some way.
