Rumour: 3D Realms Shuts Down

Yep i can see Alan Wake and Huxley both going down the same path as DNF!

Never even heard of Huxley until now... Looking around it had a release date back in 2007 at one point! How do you get a release date that wrong? It's was also suppose to be released last year, but didn;t make it!

ii) They were great game developers but not so great businessmen. There have been claims from ex-employees of constant reworkings, poor oversight, lack of communication, etc. People being assigned to a job, spending weeks on it, lower management saying it's fine, then upper management looking at the finished job and binning it, having not looked at it at all during the work. Over and over again.

Sounds like the place I work for - and we never get stuff finished.

It's amazing what poor management can do to a good product and hard work.

I feel sorry for designers and developers who worked on DNF, because I can completely relate to how demoralising it can be having work scrapped.

Things that have taken less time than Duke Nukem Forever's Development:

Wars:
The American War for Independence
The United States Civil War
World War I
The United State's involvement in the Vietnam War.
World War II and the entire Manhattan Project. Yes, even the complete development of the atomic bomb took less time.
Alexander The Great's conquest of Persia took 6 years, from 334BC to 328BC
Julius Caesar's conquest of Gaul took 7 years, from 58 BC to 51BC

ROFL that website is brilliant :D

all i no is if that game ever is released it will be the biggest selling game of all time

What on earth makes you think that? I would have thought a lot of the original fanbase doesn't even game any more. 12 years is a very long time in gaming, it would have to have a hell of a marketing campaign to catch up. Even then I can't see it beating the Halo's or GTA's in terms of sales.

I just think the crass un-PC gameplay would still make a nice change :)

There's also the rather glaring issue that it would only be released on the PC, i don't see how it could compete in sales with games like CoD4, Half Life 2 and GTAIV when it's cut out millions of potential sales.

i just believe with the amount of hype and publicity this has got as being such a fail that everyone would wish to go out and see what 12 years does to a game that is all
As long as it looked like a half playable game, I'd order it... If only to see what the 'Holsom Twins' are like :)

Ah I didn't realise it would be PC only. Surely if someone was going to rescue it they would want it on consoles as well?

Oi! I played DN3D on release and I still game!

I dare say quite a few people who originally play DN3D would give DNF ago if it came out, just to see what 3DR were up to for 12 years.

I know I would.

Me too! I remember doing script mods for it and designing maps! Remember doing mods to do overkill on deaths with fountains of blood and gore :)
