Isn't it scary how much on a night out?

that would be a crap night.

Possibly but the company makes a whole lot more difference to the night in my experience than where you are. Having to watch what you're spending doesn't tend to make for a great night out but I've had some fantastic nights where I've spent less than £20 and some rubbish nights where it has been easily upwards of £50 which is why I think that the people you are out with has far more bearing than the amount you spend.

Ignoring special promotions, student prices etc it's not that unbelievable:

-Walk to the venue(s)
-Only pay for your own drinks, or 'balanced' rounds
-Don't pay for entry into anywhere
-Don't buy any food
-Choose places that serve fairly cheap drinks.
-If you must go in an expensive venue (clubs), don't buy any drinks

For those who can follow these steps, the only expenditure they will have is on relatively cheap booze, say £2-£2.50 a drink = 8-10 drinks from £20.

Obviously, some people can't do this stuff, but that's how some people can spend only £20.

ps for all you, here in london its £10-£15 for a taxi, each way... getting some small figures above

It's all about your mentality. If you're used to spending £100 on a night out and you consider it a reasonably good use of money, it's easy to do. Go out earlier, don't pre-drink, pay ridiculous entrance fees, be a little liberal with who you're buying drinks for, have a session at Subway and an expensive taxi ride and I imagine it's not difficult to spend £100.

On the other hand, I cringe at the thought of wasting that much money on something I won't remember, so I rarely spend more than £30.

You don't 'pre-drink' or have a 'session' at Subway? Good lad.

Erm, as they say, "word" :)

Ah - no problem. Just never heard the expression 'pre-drinking' before. What is pre-drinking btw?

Pre-drinking = drinking cheaply at someone's house before you go out, so that you spend less in the pub/club. Thought it was a fairly common expression but maybe it's a student thing?

I take £30 out at the most. I don't eat when I'm drinking so no money gets spend on food. We walk to the pub. I get 20/40 cigs for that too and normally come back with change.

We normally have a few drinks before we go out and when out as most of my friends know I'm fairly skint I get a fair few drinks paid for me. :)

Whats wrong with the places that have cheap drinks, some of the best places round here have the cheapest drinks. The expensive places tend to be with all the people that just want to look cool.
And on the last one you drink cheap drinks then go to the expensive place and don't buy any.

Why would you pay for a taxi anyway, the amount you pay for a taxi, in a year you'd be cheaper to walk home, alright, odds are you might get mugged, if you lose £100 and take a whack you'd still be up on the taxis.
I don't like paying £7, doesn't matter how drunk, i'll crawl home on my face naked before I pay £15 for a taxi.

I don't drink before I go out, it's boring, waste of time, if you enjoy drinking at home why even bother going out. I sure as hell can't be bothered, i go down the pub for about 6, half the people i know go in for 9, it's madness.

what cheap places, its all £3 per pint +

look cool? all i care about is fit women and not too many guys

again what cheap places, only thing that i can do is get a bottle of vodka and drink it before i go out, at a friends or my house

taxi? well id be walking about 2-5 miles through fulham/chelsea etc... takes a while, bus is like every hour and they dont even come on time, if i am actually drunk i would probably take the taxi, if its just a little drinkup and no club i catch the last train, i really hate the bus

that would be a crap night.

Are you telling me you've never gone out with a small group of good friends, been round a few bars having say 6-8 drinks, met a few new people and had at least an "OK" night out? That's quite worrying!

Like I said, not everyone can do it, it depends where you live/go out (and what your tipple is, of course). The point was, this guy was saying "how the hell" can people go out with only £20, I'm explaining how some people can. I know plenty of pubs charging less than £3 a pint.

As for not buying drinks, by the time you get to those sort of places charging £7 a drink you can be tanked up enough already, glass of water if you must. Some people are OK with that and that's why they only spend £20.

330ml Singha (thai beer) is £6 in Funky Buddha
ugh.gif

I think I've fallen for that one before.

since splitting up and moving out with my ex i have spent over £800 on going out in a month and a half :( am living with ozzies though, kurbing it from now on though.

Typically spend about £15-30 on a studenty night depending on how much I consume before going out. If its a big event like warehouse project, getting on it usually costs quite a bit more ;).

If you end up at a clubs with door entry of £6/7 and double vodbulls at £5 or 6 quid a pop, it's not hard to spend a silly amount throughout the night. Especially if you're getting a taxi back.
