French net piracy bill signed off - Three strikes and your out !!!

The only reason that France has passed this is because Carla needed the album deal? It could be that to get his wife the deal Sarkozy made some new friends..

No, but i'm not obsessed by fame or wealth either, two of the qualities that are slowly destroying society.

Feel free to come and watch me work any time you like.

And to qualify my statement, perhaps we would have more worthy entertainment instead of predator 10 and the philosophers stone, i'm a celebrity give me money season 6 and lol i cut a horse in half and then slept in this bed, it's art.

Your statement about "coming to watch you work" is a bit flawed - what do you do? If you work in an office, doing say programming I don't think you would be too happy if your employer decided that your code today would be free and you wouldn't get paid.

I agree that there is is some crap movies out there and the bar needs raising in the quality of TV/Cinema, but downloading the film isn't the way forward - that still shows that there is interest in that film.

Personally, I sit on the fence with this - I think that piracy is wrong (although I do occasionally grab a TV episode that I have missed off of Sky) but then it does boost interest and sales in music, and this has been proven and spoken off by artists.

Part of my reasoning for not downloading music (any more, I was once rather prolific in my younger days and had a bit of a moral moment and got rid of all I didn't own) is that a lot of my friends are in bands and while they say they are just happy for people to listen to their music I see how much work they put in and I felt guilty for getting their music for free, after seeing all that effort.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out, on the surface it seems utterly unenforceable but if (and thats a big if) they have a measured success then expect to see similar legislation spread.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if the policy is actually enforced a lot of younger people will be forced to stop downloading as there parents that pay the bill and possibly use the net for work and banking etc will not want to risk being cut off and banned.

I breached my fair usage policy 3 times in 4 months and have 50KB/s download speeds during the day (Orange ban). But I never use it during the day anywho, so I loled.
Sry has nothing to do with piracy.

What do they steal? Are you aware of the legal definition of theft?

I think most of us are aware that copyright infringement and theft are two very different things, but they both are not right.

Scorza appears oblivious to this, though. He thinks people who infringe copyright are theives. An interesting viewpoint. Wrong, but interesting.

It's a legal verses moral argument and a waste of time why you had to start it with no other contribution to the topic is beyond me, or maybe you just like the attention? Offer an opinion on the subject of the thread or click the red cross.

I would quiet happily pay £5 a month more on my internet connection to get any music/film/etc I wanted as a download and it's mine to do with as I please. Then impose a three strikes rule for anyone caught using illegal P2P/Usenet etc.

Imagine the revenue that would generate for the industries.

Being told you have to work for free by your employer is a bit different to piracy/forgery.

But they still hold a few similarities - if someone downloads an album instead of buying it, that is one piece of revenue, just like if you don't get paid for some of your own work.

Work for pay - it's very similar when you break it down.

I would quite happily pay £40 or so a month to consume the media I download atm.

Apparently stupid people do.

Flat rate, unlimited, DRM free, on demand media (lets leave software aside) for cheaper than usenet pricing is massive ask. But thats what the industry needs to better.
