***The 2009 Final Year Students Thread***

Got my last 3 exams next week, but i've lost all motivation to revise for them.

Going to Prague straight after for a week so that's what i'm looking forward to :D

Out of interest, did Uni prepare you for this sort of activity?

I know a while back they had some workshops for CV's on, but I missed them since I was far too busy finishing off my Dissertation. It's not something I can recall being covered in modules or anything though.

Final year of physics msci here at Imperial.

Nothing lined up apart from the dole queue :p

Revising for exams atm. Lesson learnt at uni - Don't pick hard topics because they are interesting

Final year of Computer science at University of Essex

Ive found this degree to be extremely hard and has gone very slow for me, ive had 1 exam and 5 to go and they are all crazy hard!

Have no job lined up as i dont think i want a job in computers... unless its very interesting.

Got big fear i wont pass my exams and all this hard work will be wasted.

Week left of examinations then assuming I get my 2:1 start my grad job in the city in October. Looking forward to 5 months of summer (will probably get bored after first week though...)

Where will you be working, if you don't mind me asking?

Computer Science at Bristol. I found it rather dull and can't wait to finish and do something a bit more challenging (and certainly not directly involving computers!).

I've got one more exam left of my three year geography degree at Plymouth Uni, can't wait to finish to be honest.

I've had an ace time at university, learnt a lot about life, and myself, and generally had a great time. I've enjoyed the course and I've even been lucky enough to go on field trip as a part of my course, around the Uk, Ireland, and as far afield as Malaysian Borneo and Thailand.

My last few weeks have been spent revising for my three exams, of which my last exam is on tuesday.

I'm glad to have come to university, and I know I wasn't ready to start full time work straight after my A-levels. I've loved it while I've been here, but I'm ready to leave now, I've been getting a bit frustrated with the lifestyle recently and lack of money. But I know that as soon as I start work i'll be hankering to get back to uni and be a student again!

I've got temporary work lined up for the summer until september, which pays well so I'm going to be doing as much time as I can and getting some money together. I then plan to save up more money until early next year and go travelling.

Maybe after that i'll consider trying to get a career for myself.

Thomas, speaking as someone who's graduated from that very course - do yourself a favour and do a placement year.

Nix, are you at Plymouth? Can I have a chat to you about some courses? My msn is benjo1989"at"hotmail.com

Its a bit late now really, I've all but finished. And i've got plans about what I'm doing afterwards now.

What were your experiences like after the course. Tought to get employment without experience I'm guesing.

Hah, my experience has been anything but normal so I'm probably not the best to be asking about this, but personally speaking I graduated 2008 and I'm still out of work; not even the local market wants me as they've all upped their game in terms of experience levels, which as a fresh graduate I obviously lack. Compared to other graduates from different universities, I also fall into second place. I'm going no-where fast. Combine this with the fact that I kind of had a breakdown around easter last year, and went into my own little shell for a long, long time to which I've only just managed to put to bed; my life has been anything but fun since I've graduated - my mind has been a pressure-cooker. But again, that's just me. I see the brighter side now, but there's still a bitter taste in my mouth.

Most on the course managed to find work, but from those I've spoke to it has been through friends and family or their placements or current employers.

Either way - personal experiences aside - you're facing an uphill struggle. Get your foot on the ladder though, and you're set.

Final year at York doing Accounting and Finance. Got 2 pretty hefty essays in for a week, then have 2 exams. I'm looking forward to enjoying summer (probably going to the Alps) then starting my grad job assuming I get a 2.1 in September.

Lucky sod - miss York so much, graduated this time last year! Went back last weekend for Roses, fantastic couple of days!!!

As Nix has already mentioned, I'd seriously think about a masters for a bit, I haven't had fully time work yet since graduating - had a couple of jobs as a marketing contractor, but nothing long term. I'm seriously considering going back to uni to do a masters myself this year, gain some more qualifications and hope that things are better by the time I leave!

Haha awesome that there's 3 of us from York in here!

Im just about finished my third year doing politics. All exams out the way, just the dissertation to go. I've loved Uni so much and really cant imagine what its going to be like leaving. Most of my friends are moving south to full time jobs and its going to be so weird without them.

Things have to change eventually though and I've got a pretty manic 4 years planned from now on. I'm going to be working part time until April next year and from September doing a counselling skills certificate course at york college with some volunteering in the care/charity sector at evenings and weekends. In April I will hopefully be doing either camp America or Camp Canada until the end of summer.

Next winter I'm planning to go travelling for 6 months with money saved from working. When I get back a few more months part time and then, all things hopefully being well, a Social Work MA.

Totally do Camp Canada Lil old me, I just recently returned from 9 months in Canada on "Work Canada" and it was amazing.

I graduated in 2008 from RHUL in Computer Science, and am thinking of going back to Uni this September to do a Master's. We'll see.
