Hello all, new on here.
I was told the Omnia HD would be out in stores earlier than on the net or phone....doesnt make sense in the current era!

I would have thought it would be the other way round. Mobiles have some ok offers on at the moment on it on pre-order.

I am after a new phone this week - can anyone offer advice for anything better than the HD?

Better in what way? In terms of hardware there really isn't anything else that can match it. There's other phones with 8Mp cameras, best option would be to go have a play in a shop and see what you like.

Yeah I think the HD has tons of great things about it but i was thinking if there will be problems with software would I be better looking at a Nokia or Iphone or new Diamond or something. Wondered what you guys would recommend.

Got the mrs a 5800 and she loves it and no problems so far....i was going to pre-order the HD but not sure now if its the way to go.

thanks
Ade

Ah well i cancelled my pre-order, i'm going to wait and see what people think about it instead of just jumping straight in. N97 was what i wanted all along anyway, so i'd may as well wait until then.

Oh......you have put doubt into my mind...i wanted the n97 but need a new phone asap...what to do......

And my N95 is running Symbian also, if the HD is anything like that was on release day its another reason i'm going to pass. Its my compulsive nature to buy shiney gadgets on impulse, and thats exactly what i did with this - besides i originally wanted a non-touchscreen keyboard.

If this gets great reviews after release, i'll re-order :)

This is putting me off the OMNIA HD. I was planning on trying this out - I currently use the iPhone; use it all the time and everything just works and flows well - I wanted a change which I think the OMNIA would satisfy me on.

But maybe just keep to the iPhone.

Stick to the iPhone for now until Symbian undergoes a radical UI change, it is quite simply a complete pain in the arse to use on a daily basis. Maybe a hardware keyboard a la N97 will help this, but touch-only is a nightmare, and you rely on the stylus much more than I thought you would. Also my 5800 touch-screen is less than accurate.

All the iPhone needs is a better cam with 640*480 video recording, more memory, and a removable battery... and there would be nothing else to touch it in overall terms. However the sublime UI does make up for its critical lack of hardware/software features, and once OS 3.0 is released Apple will finally have caught up for the most part in terms of features.

Wow, I never thought i'd hear myself say it... :(

New video on Youtube, supposedly taken with i8910. Samsung seriously need to sort out the sound if it has indeed been recorded with the Omnia HD. Truely awful. Please sort it out Samsung, very close to loosing another customer.

There has been much debate as to what audio codec the Omnia HD will use when shooting video footage. In a move that is likely to disappoint some users, Samsung has officially confirmed that the Omnia HD will use the low-quality AMR Narrow Band codec at 8000Hz 16 bit 2 channel 12.8 Kbps bit rate.

It seems that the main reason behind the move is to not stress the ARM CPU too heavily when recording HD video. Given the amount of data to process, it was felt that AMR offers the best quality solution when taking both points into consideration. The AMR codec is also optimised for speech coding, which Samsung claims is a better choice for the human voice.

Thank you Nokia for the N97. :D

Has that seriously been recorded with the omniaHD? Because that is truly dire quality!

there were pre-release phones that had a known sound problem. It is meant to be fixed for when it goes to market.

Is this a pre-release phone? I would say most likely it is.

Well I hope it is :D

Yes that should be fixed now....i'm sitting on the fence with the hd at the moment.so many good things but a few things putting me off.if i could get one monday it might sway me to having one though.

Its definitely a tough one but I guess you could try it out in the shop before you buy if they have them in stock of coarse.

Its easy to be fascinated and bemused by specifications but from what I found with the omnia, Samsung are not too great with supporting their phones after releasing them, and thats where the issues lie. I am sure if Samsung really wanted to they could put a bit more effort in and build firmware and software that makes the omnia great and comparable to the iPhone, but they just seem to be making new phones at an extraordinary rate and forget about the old ones. So you have to then do things yourself and read lots on XDA forums and fiddle about intensely with your phone. I imagine it will be the exact same with the omnia but a bit worse as at least windows mobile is a bit easier to use than symbian (I absolutely hated all this "signing" stuff that we had to do to software to get it to work on the n95!).

I reccommend just waiting a week or two guys... don't blow wads on something you may regret just for the sake of being the first to have it on release... use your knouses. :)

If we're expecting it to be as smooth as an iphone then its always going be a non starter.

Im always tempted with the iphone apart from very expensive contracts and the fact the hardware is pretty shocking.

The OmniaHD use a 3.7" capacitive screen. It makes the world of difference. Samsung's modifications to the UI are pretty cool too.
