10 worst goalkeepers in England's top division

Leighton always freaked me out with the big dollop of grease or vaseline he always had over his eyes.

Haha, I'd forgotten about that.

Leighton was actually a very competent goalkeeper for club and country. That's my recollection of him anyway.

3. Gary Sprake
though Elland Road fans still shudder at the memory of the 1970 FA Cup final when he allowed a weak shot from Peter Houseman to slip through his grasp, helping Chelsea to claim a 2-2 draw. They won the replay.

Oh god i remember that one (obviously not from the day as i wasnt born :p) but the video :(

you really dont like me or spurs do you :(

I don't dislike anyone on this forum, nor do I dislike Spurs. In fact, I really like Harry Redknapp, so I can't hate on them. Spurs are in many of the entertaining matches in a season, so no, I have nothing against them, I just think a lot of their transfer decisions over the last 4 seasons have been hilarious.

This top 10 seems a little silly now that Gomes has broken Spurs' 89-year old record for least goals conceded in a season at home. :)

Yeh, I laughed at him through most of the first part of the season, he was awful, He came through that now.

The more I see him now the more I see him recreating the form he had at PSV, the form that gave him his reputation as one of the better European goalkeepers.

Surely that's down to having a decent back four and not just Gomes??

That said Gomes has come on leaps and bounds for you guys but you still look at him and expect the odd howler like you do with David James though :p

Aye, not just down to him. King, Woodgate, Assou-Ekotto and Corluka have all been immense this season. Having Palicios infront of the back-four has also helped considering since the new year.

However, he's recently been making a couple of outrageously good saves per match at White Hart Lane. I honestly believe that if Paul Robinson was still in goal, we'd be about 14th or 15th. Spurs have won a lot of games 1-0 and it's easy for wins to turn into draws.

Gomes has done really well since acclimatising to the EPL. Assou-Ekotto in the second half of the season has been great (anyone is better than Bale), Corluka has been excellent, Woodgate has been imperious and Dawson a revelation and has really proven me wrong on what a good defender he could be.

Redknapp has undoubtedly been the star of the show though, how people can criticise him is beyond me, he's done a truly marvellous job since he's taken over, improved everyones form and he made the two purchases they really needed, Keane and especially Palacios who has been great.

Very unfair on Paul Jones, he isn't even the worst keeper saints fielded in the premier league let alone in the top ten worst. He wasn't the best keeper in the world but did pretty well and wouldn't have lasted so long if he was as inept as that comment sounds.

Gomes really has to come off the list, he just set a new record for Spurs for the fewest goals conceded at home in a season.

Gomes is the mutts nutts.

Excellent saves - comes for crosses unlike Robbo.

To be honest i don't care if he gets to a cross (prefer it when he does) Robinson was so flat footed and left it all to the back four.

Never ever seen a keeper beaten from distance so often as Robbo. Maybe as mentioned Palacios is instrumental too.

But Gomes goes through a purple patch and comes out smiling.

Maybe appointing tony parks helped but looking forward to next season.

Modric, palacios, Gomes - good buys

Scott Carson has frequently blundered many shots... Heres one for example:

Why the hell is Gomes on the list?

He has been nothing less than superb for us after settling an adjusting to a completely different way of football.

Ridiculous.
