What annoys me most...
'It will also stop children being creative in how they wear their ties'

Do this disgusting, repulsive breed of PC cretins want us to be a nation of boring, panicked robots.

What's this got to do with political correctness?

The whole reason for a school uniform (apart from the social levelling mentioned in the article) is that it looks smart. If you're wearing your tie in a way that makes you look untidy, you might as well chuck away the uniform all together.

I don't think this is a great idea though. The only reason I know how to tie a tie is because I spent 5 years doing it in school. I think the risk of tie-related accidents is fairly minimal, so it does seem kind of pointless. That said, I think it's a bit of a minor issue to get fretting about. There are bigger issues with education than the type of tie a kid is wearing.

Wonder how long it'll be before these "clip on" ties are banned because one pupil has had their eye taken out by another wielding their tie like a whip.

D&T class.....but then we were told to take them off for it anyway.

If we went into the work shop we had to wear a lab coat aswell as in chem. So your tie couldn't get caught in anything. Even in home ec you had to wear and apron.

It's more to do with safety fears than a smart appearance.

Actually, a longer tie would be better for whipping.

A short tie wouldnt let you get the loop that produces the crack. ;)

Thing is, it isn't really. Those schools moving to clipons will be doing so almost entirely to make their pupils look smarter, the Health and Safety aspect will have been tagged on to the article/inflated so as to garner more attention, because everyone likes to have a good rant about ridiculous H&S, nanny state, politcal correctness etc etc.

Sigh, Britain ... run by idiots, catering to idiots.

What next, ban shoe laces?

I seriously want to emigrate from this god-forsaken place :(

Tbh the sooner ties die out the better - all they're good for is choking kids and spreading MRSA in hospitals.

What on Earth does this have to do with political correctness?

The High-School I attended banned ties ages ago because of one girl who hanged herself with it.
Saying that though, I doubt that's what they are trying to prevent.
