Cameron launches petition for immediate general election

I so want Conservatives to take over... I mean, look what they have on one of their sites:

:D

Bring on a General Election i say. Labour have been utter rubbish, not that the others are any better mind you!

Lets have every MP investigated by the police for mis-use of public money. Weed out the fraudsters etc.

Weather isn't good enough - the British usually riot in June to August.

To be clear, I'm not talking about rioting - just a protest. If 1m people can be bothered to march through London to protest about removing an evil dictator from power, who committed horrendous human rights violations, how come we can't even get a fraction of that together to show our disgust at the behaviour of those in power in our own country?

The sickening thing is, the Police don't care do they?

What's happened isn't a reason to call an election, neither is it a reason for the speaker of the house to go.

What should happen is that any MPs caught up in it should be booted from their parties until the next election. I keep seeing calls for the speaker to show leadership - how about the party leaders who have done nothing but defend those involved and come up with feeble excuses and pointed the finger at others a lot.

Brown, cameron and clegg need to grow some balls and accept that it was their members who were up to this and they should sort it out amongst the three of them. THEN we can get an election.

Regarding the Police - after the last investigation lost a senior police officer his job I doubt I'd be keen to go near an MP either. Fact is MPs still think they're above the law, party leaders and the police need to knock them into shape. The police and Speaker shouldn't be left to do it for them.

I'm old enough to remember the poll tax riots, I would say that the level of public anger with the government now is about the same as it was back then - yet why no protests? Have I misjudged the public mood or has the general public just become totally apathetic?

It's fairly clear. MPs expenses aren't going to shift the tax burden on to the poorest section of society to make those above them better off. The poll tax did that, intentional or not.

What's happened isn't a reason to call an election, neither is it a reason for the speaker of the house to go.

I would argue it is. Over 100 MPs, or 1/6.5(ish) claimed the maximum or within 1k of it. Plenty more claimed not much less. It has undermined the public faith in parliament. The only reasonable argument against a general election is that the voting system means the majority of incumbent MPs will be returned to parliament. If we had PR we would be looking at a brand new landscape.

The thing that gets me is that HMRC will instantly crush you if you make any mistakes on your tax return.

You get a chance to put them right and things are broken down in to deliberate/negligent/genuine mistake which you bing to light yourself. In the case of those here that have deliberately evaded tax I hope they use the full force.

Our political system is in tatters, I don't want to vote for any of them, none of them seem to have a clue. Their policies are so similar that there is no real choice anyway, we're caught between "Dumb and Dumber"

HEADRAT

We could be in for another consensus, something we could do without.

for those who haven't i suggest watching the BBC comedy; 'Yes minister'.

it sums up the whys and wherefores.

they're all the same, they always will be the same. whoever is in power will say the opposite of the party that is in power when ever the public's opinion is concerned. you say what needs to be said and then once in power you dilly dally about with stuff and put a different spin on it so that it slips through unnoticed or gets left over for when the next party comes in (which will probably be the previous one).

for what it's worth i'll be voting conservative, at least they're fairly open about the fact they intend to screw me and my class to the wall so that the upper classes can have it a bit more cushy, unlike labour who lie through their teeth

i am not so sure, i was a diehard conservative and hated Blair and Brown at first but he has won me over. May not be doing all the right things but he seems to have the balls to try and change things not just hope things will sort themselves out like the John Major days.

Its times like this that the Queen needs to pull her finger out of her ass and dissolve Parliament so we can start again.

I completely agree, now's the time to show true leadership, not the garbage the house of commons have been spouting out over the last week or so. I also believe that the electorate should have the power to remove their MP if a majority of a constituency show their disapproval in the form of a petition, without having to wait for a general election/the MP being cast out.

i honestly dont know who i would vote for next time, labour is just poor and dont have a clue now so dont want them in anymore, the tories are just has bad at wantig to shaft us. then theres the lib dems that i dont know what there policies are if they have any at all. but are tehy going to get enough votes to get in?
No matter what i think were screewed

I think the best thing would be a Conservative-Lib Dem power sharing.

Get this shower of **** out of power and have someone with decent ideas held in check by common sense.

Well seems the speaker is stepping down at any rate

Maybe its a snowball that brown wont be able to stop this time.

The fear i have for the next election is that many people will not vote, once again allowing in the old crusty MP's who have a die hard following. Personally i feel it should be illegal to not vote.
