Spec a colleague a £30,000 car

She did say she fancies the S4/5 but I don't want her dropping £30,000 without at least checking out the competition.

Setting yourself up for nothing but misery trying to advise colleagues on car purchases.

Why does it matter anyway? I'm not really that fussed what my gf decides to buy and I have to drive the thing almost as much as she does and it will be bought with joint money :o

for £30k, i's be looking at a used RS4/6, or as she likes the S5, then that, however, i'd maybe look into buying an older car that won't lose much value, then waiting a year or so until R35 skylines start appearing on the used market.

Just my opinion.

Do running costs matter and is age important? Off the top of my head, cars that fall into a bracket of luxury/fast/bigish (Im assuming no sports cars) and can be had for up to £30K:

Any of the Merc AMG 55s (E, CLK, CL, SL)
Audi (R)S 4/5/6
Vauxhall VXR8
BMW M3/5
BMW 650
Jaguar XKR/XJR/XF (4.2)
Maseratti 4200
Corvette C6

I'm expecting the inevitable bath, but ~50% over 12 months? CAP residuals are 84%.

i assumed they were about £50k to buy new, and it then gives her another year to save lol.

Bit more than that, but still, you're talking 40%. I'm off to scrub my eyes and pretend I never read your post.
