Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Just getting into this again having sold my stick not long after launch I really want another one. I seriously suck at fighting games, I'm having real trouble trying to pull off Balrogs ultra, how fast do you have to be? I've been trying for ages in challenge mode as well as his super and no matter what I do I cannot do it.

slow still means fairly quick though so don't do it too slow, i personally do it as quick as possible. youre most likely failing because you are not charging long enough or you're doing the command too slow.

You can take just over a second to do the whole motion and it will still work.

Mashing it out as fast as humanly possible can cause a lot of issues for newbies on the d-pad/analogue stick. When learning the motion do it at a fair pace but don't mash it out. Once you've got the hang of it then you can slowly build up the speed to aid doing it on reaction in real matches.

most common mistakes i see are people pressing commands way too slow or pressing buttons too late after the last direction input.

if you want to do it slow at first then thats fine, i strongly advise you speed up as soon as you see it work though.

Thanks guys, I can pull off Ryu's with ease! Maybe I should get another stick? Not loving the pad tbh. Also I seem to remember people having trouble getting Ultra's/supers to work in challenge mode, is that still the case?

people have trouble because the combos in the trials are hard :p

if you're more comforatble with the stick then go ahead and get another one :). i don't know if you are using 360 or ps3 but if you're using the 360 pad then switch it out for anything else because that dpad is pants!

i think that dpads are way better than analogue sticks for beat em ups but the problem with the 360 d-pad is that its too unaccurate. you can seeit when you hold down direction, it sorta rocks about and easily registers as any of the direction next to it

...he 360 d-pad is that its too unaccurate...

This is true.

Just went to mates for half hr to practice on the 360 pad, to see if I have any chance with the dpad and it was mega fail. :( I'll still be going to the tourny tomorrow to see how it goes lol. :)

The most common mistake I used to make was I'd jump when trying to do a particular move, cant remember what It was (may have been shoryukens and hadoukens). Main reason I built my joystick, Never get that problem now.

About to set of to town for the tourny hehe, It will only be E36 there from OC init?? or is anyone looking to make a last minute trip down?

Will keep you all informed on how it goes,

*Signs out of oc, and is going to get plastered*

Regards

Just got back from gamerbase, was a very good turnout, I reckon there were about 35 players.

Good news: I won all my 3 games and managed to top my group and go through to the knockouts :D

Bad news: ...but got leathered by a chun li player in the last 16.

I was using the 360 pad which I am not really use too, but even if I was on my own fightpad I think I would have struggled from last 16 onwards. There were some v good players there. My group in all fairness wasn't that hard, I leathered an akuma player, beat another ryu, and just about beat a bison.

The final was Balrog vs Guile and Balrog won, it was the same Balrog who won last time. Everyone from the last 8 onwards was using a stick, and that is definately the way to go if you are looking to enter/progress/win these tournys. They all use combo's and FA quite abit. The Balrog who was runner up last time got knocked out by the Guile but it was very close, but some of the combo's he was doing with Balrog were amazing. It seemed to go on and on and on. I didn't record any vids but someone else there was recording the games, will post a link to them once they are up on neoempire.

All in all, a good tourny. I was chatting to this guy there who uses Sagat and he was v good. He also plays on PS3, hes on around 12000GP, and he was really struggling with the 360 pad he got knocked out last 16 aswel. Third place went to a Dhalsim player, some of these guys I thought were awesome. In terms of skill level from the ppl I've played here, I think ojste with his Ken in full flow once he's nailed the stick, is the only one who would have had a chance to progress past the last 8 and possibly win. Next one is on 24th June I think, ojste make the trip down. :D

What an absolue awesome turnout E36,

I got absolutely plastered, i was in the group with 2 of the previous champs a cammy player and a very tough zangief player, also a phenomenal sagat player, Was using the 360 pad and nothing was happening for me, Managed to win one game that was it and that was against a young blanka player, What a terrible performance by myself,

Did not manage to take pics or videos but seen many people shooting and recording away, once they are up on neoempire i will post link.

Anyway Next tournament is 24th June (Same time) (same place),
Manchester
HMV (Ground Floor)
Market Street.

Only in a UK tournament would the more interesting characters do so well :(

Sounds like it was a good experience, I'll have to try and attend a tournament sometime. I'm off to Portugal on the 25th so probably can't attend the tournament on the 24th :p

Definitely worth coming to mate, Have a good trip to portugal,
Your a 360 player init reckon you should do aright?

No ryu or ken player in the last 8

True say pretty shocking that really, i dont think there were any ryu or ken players that were good there at all,

Anyway once i have got my stick i am definetely going to start on balrog as he is a must learn character in my eyes, majority of all finals he has reached and won very very tough player.
