its a tdci model only 60k miles or so heres whats happend
was driving along and my clutch pedal kept getting stuck and would not go into gears then all of a sudden the clutch wouldnt engage!
pulled over car was just idling and was a funny noise and all of a sudden cut out now wont start anymore

what am i looking at ? someone said clutch, release bearing, flywheel ??
grr this is all i need now!

There's a good chance of it being the flywheel.

The debris goes everywhere in the clutch/starter motor etc and cause these sorts of problems.

You might be suprised that this happened on a 60k car but it happened on mine at 49k! Its the torque that kills them (which is why the petrols dont suffer from it nearly as much) and mine's only a 2.0 too...

Edit - even if it is just the clutch, I'd still advise replacing (if not VERY carefully examining) the DMF - you're looking at about £650 if you shop around or about £1000 from a main dealer

how much am i looking at to get it sorted and will i need a clutch ?
i dont exactly take it easy and its been re mapped so very torquey lol

See the edit, I paid £647 for new clutch and DMF.

You can convert them to solid, I was oddly quoted more for this at close to £800. I wouldnt reccomend this as it can damage the gearbox.

Hmmmm, remapped TDCI 2.2 - good luck with your injectors

If youre thrashing it everywhere I'd reccomend taking it a bit easier, especially with gear changes

i just want it fixed at the cheapest cost all my mates are mechanics and they can do the work with me, hmm never had any problems with injectors so far yeah i drive it hard lol

I'd try and get it sorted by a garage so you've got a reciept - that will be worth a lot when you come to sell it as most people are aware of the issues.

Erm yeh, good luck with the injectors anyway.... if they let go its not a job your mates will be able to do....

With driving a remapped 2.2 hard with 60k miles, I'm suprised he's not already surrounded by a smoke screen every morning...

A garage just diagnosed my performance issues as fueling related and in need of a specialist. £258 to diagnose and bench test the injectors and potentially upwards of £1000 to replace/refurbish..... I'm beginning to think it might just be a duff new fuel filter with some crud dragged into it when it got a bit low on fuel - fingers crossed!

Hopefully, were you never taught not to run a diesel out? :p

Lol - never ran it out, just got lower than I'd normally like (20~30 miles on the computer)...

I ran out a few times when I had an old 93 1.8 mondeo td - that was never a pleasant experience

Did it in my veggie oil powered Fiesta D 1.8 (oh god...) and without a fuel priming pump... it took ages to start again!

I went through 2 starter motors because of that :(

Should have loosened one of the injectors and cranked it - thats what I had to do!

Nice simple engines, never went wrong...it was the rest of the car that was the problem :D

hey its been fine just throws out a bit of smoke now and again lol!
well im going to get my mate to look at it tommorow see what it is and what needs done
time to buy a cheap runabout for now though :(

I'm sure it has been fine, not implying it hasnt been but injector problems are very common on these - driving hard with a remap will just bring the failure forward.

If you get a cloud of smoke on starting in the morning they're on their way - its because the injectors dribble into the cylinders overnight when its standing

oh its always smokey when it starts everyday aslong as the thing goes i wasnt bothered about that, got this problem to sort out now lol

lol well if thats the way you want to run your car then its not my place to tell you otherwise.....

Although a mapped car with duff injectors will probably have less power than an unmapped car with decent injectors

well yeah probably ill sort that out afterwards ive got this flywheel, clutch or whatever it is yet, who knows we will have to wait and see til i get someone to look at it!
