Wow, how disappointing! :(
I'm torn. On one hand, to lose to a team that played so well, theres no shame in that.
But on the other, I can't help but feel we could have done so much better.
Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing. But really, for me, I think the system we used did not work with the players we had available.
By that I mean, it's one thing to play a 3 man midfield with a Fletcher/Hargreves in there.
But relying on Giggs to help counter maybe the best two midfielders in the world?
It was never going to work.
But having decided to go with this, we needed Carrick and Anderson to do a lot of the work. They didn't. For Anderson, he's young and has time.
For Carrick..well, he's always been on the cusp of being a great player. And thats because he has too many games like he did today.
Of course, he was against the best but still - he's better than what he showed.
I also don't understand going into the Final happy to take Rooney as an attacking outlet out of the game.
Which was always likely putting him as what, left fall back?
It's a waste of our best player and a £30Million pound forward.
If Evra can't defend - we need a new left back. Enough of having Rooney there.
And if the game proved nothing else, it's that a left sided winger must be our goal this summer.
Park doesn't cut it.
Other than those complaints, it looked to me like Vidic wasn't 100% and I really want to know how we ended up paying £30Million on Berba for him to start on the bench and our winger starts up front.
Ronaldo did ok (best of a bad bunch) but a lone striker of either Rooney, Tevez or Berba would have been far better at bringing others into the game and helping keep possesion.
My other major disappointment was that with the game so one sided, we had to be bold with making changes.
Instead we kept the system the same and replaced like for like.

But still, Barca passed the ball around amazingly well and I don't begrudge them their win.
I just wished we had done ourselves justice.
Tbh, it seems every tactic we used, every player we used, was all about stopping Barca.
SAF needed to show a bit of faith in his own players.

I support Crystal Palace so how am I a sore Utd Fan

Was you watching the same game as the rest of us clearly not Messi did hardly anything. WOW he scored yep best player ever

Actually he did a lot more than Ronaldo did ie made a lot of runs and gave Man Utd more headaches having to deal with his cutting runs;)...and unlike Ronaldo who should have scored a goal...Messi did score;)....and as ive said before hes been superb all season in the La Liga and CL, fact is that hes been the top scorer in this yrs CL, Ronaldo wasnt and neither were any of the other Man Utd players...but then i dont expect a Crystal Palace fan to understand the concept that one game doesnt make any player the best player ever:rolleyes:.

Saying that i thought Iniesta was absolutely superb tonight...the guy just doesnt give or lose the ball...perhaps people dont think Messi did a lot but he did enough and thats what counts;).

Stop getting so worked up FFS...its getting ridiculous...the better team won and having just watched the game again:p...its clear to see that Man Utd just got totally outplayed...make all the excuses you want but come on its a final...at least show up and make an effort..and im not talking about turning up for 10 mins then deciding ahhh cant be bothered because from where i was sitting...it definitely looked like Man utd thought they would walk this final and looking at their squad and bench, they should have in all honesty.

Was it only me who found last years final more entertaining than this years?

What?? you found last yrs final, which was decided on penalties entertaining??...ok seems like your easily pleased...personally i found it a borefest and turned the channel over once it went to penalties.

Talent aside, Ronaldo once again showed exactly why I don't like him as I mentioned earlier. Funny how he can stay on his feet when he wants to?

Ignoring the baiting against 'other club supporters' who wanted Utd to lose, I'm glad; it's a nice dose of humility which some fans and players desperately needed. Having said that, some of you are taking it very well.

Tonight, I think I fell in love with another club. In Barcelona I saw so many traits of what I enjoy in a club - their ethos, fanbase, and above all: their flair. They reminded me (some may not see it, some may) of Arsenal and I think Wenger is trying to emulate that style of play. Nevertheless, for the time being I think Barcelona might start to grow on me.

Let's not argue pointless triviality because the simple fact is you can be absolutely fantastic and still lose - it happens. When you're playing at such a level you are simply not a dominant force because some other club will always be able to come and steal it away from under you. Football is like rock-paper-scissors. This is why I say Utd needed some humility. In my opinion, not all - but many - Utd fans, their players and often Fergy think they have a God given right to win everything. Football won tonight, and I'm glad.

Berbatov was easily (apart from some awesome early shots from Ronaldo) Utd's best player. Credit to Rooney for not losing his head.

I'm a bit disappointed Henry didn't shock and awe, but with his form it was expected and his past more than speaks for itself. Messi on the other hand, wow.

So what if Barcelona didn't 'deserve' to be in the final? The fact remains that they got there and they won it against a side who on paper should've been bullying their way to another successive title. I must admit, I giggled when Ronaldo got a dose of his own medicine.

Ronaldo is a prime example of 'the bigger they are the harder they fall'. Top of that, he is a selfish player. Sure, he's got talent, but he's also got an ego that needed taking down a notch.

Arsenal may have got blindsided 4-1, but that means **** all when form and morale is considered; when Gibbs fell over it was like a punch in the stomach. Utd tonight, I think, had a small taste of how that effects a game. Being champions of Europe is a title, and nothing more.

Regardless of the ifs and buts of this season, it is what it is. There is so little between the top four (especially if all on form) within England, we drive each other to the heights of Europe: Arsenal, Chelsea, and Utd. Considering the recent matches before the elimination, Liverpool too. Any one of them could have so easily have found themselves once again in the final. Stop the bitching, mocking and bias and accept that this is the nature of the game.

I think the game would've been so much more interesting if Utd had produced what we know they can (but then again we could say that about any European final), but they were simply outplayed. It wasn't as entertaining, sure, but you cannot deny the gorgeous play of those who did win.

Anyway, tough break Utd but I think you still learned something crucial tonight. It isn't always a bad thing to lose. Reign that club ego in of yours and you'll probably find purists of the game beginning to enjoy your company again.

You just sound like a Barca fanboy and almost like the muppets on tv who praise people all the time when they don't even really do anything i have watched them every time they have been on Sky this year there league is a joke they would be bottom half if they was in the prem and yes they did deserve to win tonight Utd didn't turn up.

I bet you deny that Chelsea was screwed over the round before so really Barca should have not been in the final at all.

Just curious, but how would people feel about the creation of a European league above the current top leagues, rather than just a cup?

stupid stupid stupid idea, take all our best teams away, make it unaffordable(mostly for time due to job commitments) to actually watch your team for most of its games, and make our top tier home leagues boring........ wooo.

AS others have said, and I said, this fawning over Barca is already getting boring, they kept posession through midfield easily, because no one was even making tackles or tracking they passed through so embarassingly easily it was a joke. But for the massive, massive dominance, the apparent cutting through the defence Messi did, they created very little, and frankly, I can't remember more than a couple of cutting runs Messi did, surely if he cut through the defense so easily he would have shot or passed to someone who could shoot afterwards, the complete lack of those situations suggests to me it never happened. The majority of the game they didn't even feel like they were trying very hard, it was just too easy and it wasn't purely because they were so good, thats the let down for the entertainment of the event, Utd never turned up and played a ludicrous team, Barca had that game sewn up before the whistle went thanks to Fergie's stupidity.

Barca were far far to happy to pass it up either wing, and instead of make the telling ball or pass into the box, pass it back to midfield and pratt around with the ball for 5 minutes before trying again.

Iniesta likewise, on the ball loads, as with Xavi, entirely no pressure on their midfields in that area, but for all their posession they got to the penalty box and didn't get further for the majority of the game.

The second goal was truly awful for Utd, in that they broke from i think utd losing the ball, and besides the defenders I don't think a single Utd midfielder/attacking even attempted to run back just in case they might help. They were simply resigned to losing and if they score again, who cares. They were walking back, the ball went in, got knocked away, had anyone run back to help Utd might have picked the ball back up but Barca had so much space and time on the ball the got it back, chipped it in perfectly and Messi ran in so easily.

Seriously, it was like watching ARsenal all year, not playing a defensive midfielder, no one tracking back through the middle, repeated late tackles/fouls from behind because no one was getting between ball and goal. I remember anderson and tevez making two very poor tackles from behind in desperation.

Utd needed a DM, Barca arguably had 2 on the field, as Xavi used to be the most defensive minded of a midfield 3/4 for years, aswell as Bosques who was utterly terrible against Chelsea and couldn't get a pass right, mostly because Chelsea midfield put him under pressure, he had it easy tonight with little to no pressure so wasn't making the same mistakes.

I think it would become very stale, very quickly. It would start as invite only and one of the biggest successes in football is the promotion and relegation battles. I don't see a lot of positives from a fans perspective. A lot more travel involved, higher match prices. FIFA & UEFA would also be reluctant as it would certainly put a lot of pressure on their respective international calendars.

Eh? Berbatov...?

I remember his poor passing and missing a clear cut header with 3 mins to go. I know Man U were poor but that's going a bit far!
