Supreme Commander 2

What would be interesting is a straight port of sup com to consoles like developers do console to pc.

Would love to see how an Xbox 360 handles supreme commander!

Afaik straight port but much stricter unit cap, and the huge maps are gone.

I hate playing RTS at low res though, so its already a million times better on PC. Not to mention using the pad.

I'm a little unsure of what the veteran mod is. Didnt they have veterancy in the stock game? Then units gained the ability to regenerate (very useful stuff). What kind of tools would you suggest?

The Total Veterency mod basically made veterency a lot more fun. Your units / turrets could rank up infinately and for every rank they gained their health, regen, range, firepower, and fire rate went up. After a short while of killing AI scout spam on rush enemies one turret could pretty much defend your base with its extra range and splash damage.

Close for me, Cept I played Dune2 on amiga first, then saw C&C 1 on psx, then red alert on pc.
RTS shouldnt be played on consoles :/

omg thats was my first miggy game that had me up all nite then there was Civ 1 that kept me awake for wks on end !!!

Heheh, Dune2 was my first game love. As for Civ1, on the amiga I played it for weeks. Mainly because each turn took an hour or so to load lol. I remember being so proud I bribed an enemy tank, thats as far as I got :(

Sounds like something that you either enjoy or dont tbh. Wouldnt put me off buying the game but i dont know if i'd enjoy that so much in a Supreme Commander environment. That being said, maybe I'm talking out of my arse. Nothing more awesome than fully upgraded and experienced avatars in CnC3.. but then Supreme Commander seems more focused on large groups of units rather than individual, discrete attackers..
(little voice in my head wants to blab about realism but..applying logic of realism to SC seems a tad wrong)
Anyway, I wouldnt personally kick up a fuss either way..just a personal opinion that limiting veterancy to regeneration was wise in SC/FA :) I'll download the mod and try it out tomorrow, perhaps leading to a massive edit here :D

Ugh, reinstalled supcom but GPG doesn't seem to download the updates at all? Anyone know what's going on? From what i remember you just fired up the GPGnet app and it downloaded the patches automatically.

running vista? running 64 bit? I am and I had this problem.

Had to go into the game insta;; folder and check admin rights and xp compatiblility mode for anything that looked GPG related.

Worked fine after that

GPG acts like a pleb after a reinstall me and some mates have found. I recently did it after moving to Win7 and reinstalling FA. After logging in, it took absolutely ages to actually realise it had to patch - I think it was a good 4hrs and then it began patching.

Exact same thing happened to a mate of mine just a few days ago.

I really liked SC + FA... I just felt the games were a little too on the spammy size. It seemed like effective rushes or skirmish wars were far too uncommon instead giving way to turtling and massive, PC humbling spam wars of attrition. I hope this addresses the balance 'cause I just love the scale/scope of these games compared to their rivals.

The total veterancy mod allowed all units to automatically level up a veteran level, based on a mathematical formula that determined the size, cost, etc of the unit. At each level, the health, regen rate, range & firepower increased exponentially. This allowed you to be more careful with your higher levelled units. This included the resource units which were able to mine higher quantities if the unit remained active and intact over time. The same with factories, etc.

There is another mod which allowed each unit to use some of the energy for its activity. So if you run low on energy, then your energy based weapons cease to function. Also each firing drains the energy pool.

All in all, there are some good mods out there that fine-tune the game (as well as add 100's new units) which make it less of a tank-rush and much more strategic without cheating AI.
