Right.... Gordon Brown has always lived at 10 Downing Street. Tony Blair lived in number 11 during his time as Prime Minister.

Word is that Darling was set to be reshuffled out of No. 11 even before today's revelations. He'll be flipping out of there for sure now.

In this latest expenses "scandal" it doesn't seem that darling has either. At the time of the bill it was his second home and it is a bill allowed to be claimed for. It isn't like he would get a refund on that service charge if he sold the flat.

Wasn't be one of the people who took out a large mortgage at our expense then paid off a huge loan within months so obviously he had cash sitting but used the expenses system to save himself cash and cost us more. He's hardly clean..

This whole thing has to come to an end though, they can't get on with sorting it until we stop pressuring people to quit and we can't run a country when calling on general elections constantly. Something has to give.

Because he spent most of his time in London (as leader of the opposition would, you'd hope), he needed his second home to be in his constituency. He took out a mortgage to buy it, and only claimed the interest on it as an expense (which he was entitled to do). Around the same time, he also paid off a loan he took out to buy his London home.

So, the (NOTW's) unfounded argument was that he could have taken out a smaller mortgage for the secondary home rather than paying off his own loan on the London home.

Because he needed two homes to do his job, I don't see how he has 'unclean' regarding the expenses.
