Which card to buy,4870X2 or GTX295?

I have just exchanged my sapphire 4870X2 for a ZOTAC GTX295.
The GTX295 is quieter, cooler and all 3 of my games perform better:
Company of heroes, crysis and world in conflict.

According to ATI fanboys you should downgrade to a slower, hotter, noisier card to save some money...

Ughh *shudders*

Seriously when you can say YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG at life, you know you're in trouble.

Comments only apply for people in the market for a new graphics card.

Do the right thing and request a permabanning from one of the mods. :)

oh god not that damm GPU FXs were **** :( I had a FX5700LE couldn't even play farcry :( I too only used to buy Nvida what a mistake that WAS lol! >_>

I tried a gefarce FX 5800, it was terrible.

I got it refunded and done the right thing, went and bought an ATi 9800 Pro which turned out to be a rebadged 9800 XT, so I flashed it from a Pro to an XT :p.

Great choice that was, my 9800XT went like a hot fart and overclocked really nicely with arctic cooling's first GPU cooler.

I think I got it pretty close to the X800 Pro on 3D mark 03 :D.

I'm pretty sure it was over a 60% overclock, though not entirely sure, I just rememer it getting around 10,000 in 3D Mark 03.

Fun times :D

People seriously need to get over all this rubbish and remember what they're in this hobby for, it's supposed to be fun.

hmm, reading through this thread and (aside from the crys of fanboy) it got me to rethink my choice of GFX upgrade.

had my heart set on
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-136-XF

but seeing the 4870x2 linked earlier
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-174-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1235

im torn, it'll be for a 22 inch screen...

using it for gaming, and i'll be doing some rendering etc, from what i read of cuda, is that it will it will help.

main concern is heat, as i burnt out both my last cards (first cus of very hot weather, second i broke teh fan, jinxed i know)

any advice, like to run everything with all the bells and whistles on.

thanks in advance

22" as in 1680x1050 res? I'd be tempted by the cheaper card.

In fact, I'd be tempted by an even cheaper card, like a 4870 or a gtx260. A 275 or 4870x2 is overkill for that res.

in most of the reviews ive seen cards like the 260/4870 dont seem to have much headroom with more demanding games at 1680x1050 and higher, especially with AA and AF turned up.

My 260 runs everything around barring Far Cry 2 and Crysis with the AA and AF at max in the in-game settings, at 1920x1200.

Go for the 4870x2 this overkill rubbish is used way to often.

Overkill isn't a good word to use, I agree. If the OP has the cash then yeah, go for the more expensive card(s)...

If cash is more of an issue however, one of the lower-end cards I suggested would be more than sufficient.

At current pricing anyone would be a fool to get the GTX295 over a 4870X2 when it's nicely priced at £235.

Sorry guys but I'm not the one who is insulting people for real life matters. All I am talking about is hardware. I am expressing my opinion and you simply can't accept it or get over it. Say what you want, I'm not going to care because it's your opinions. nothing to get mad about. If your are looking for someone that needs a short from the forum you only have to take a look at a mirror. Yes it's a hobby mate and as everybody knows hobbies include passion and lots of money spending. Brand loyalty has no place in hobbies neither cheapskates. Nvidia is offering the best performance and features atm and I am going to recommend it for this reason.

You've just repeated what I said!

You sir are only worthy of being bucketed. I therefore crown you with the bucket of shame, wear it with pride, you've earned it!

Don't forget, it increases the importance of your opinion ten fold!

Yes it is fact. ATI cards have more problems than the nvidia cards. No questions

Just to clarify fact and opinion aren't the same. It isn't fact that you will have problems with ATi cards. I've had oh, about 10 ATi cards over the years and had none of these problems you tell me I have had.

I've also had my fair share of nvidia cards, and except for the FX5800 which 'worked' fine, I thought it was bad value for money so I got a refund, they've also all been fine.

You can only really say it's fact that brands of computers are unreliable. I've lost count of the amount of storebought PCs I've seen fail completely. Especially Tiny ones.

I have no idea what you are talking about but judging from your response you really don't have anything worthy to say. However, an apology would suffice
I am so sorry that you're a fool. At least you're efficacious at being a fool.

I and most others in this thread are so deeply sorry that you're a fool, but unfortunitardly, there's only one person who can change that, I'll give you 12 guesses at who that is? I think you'll need them. :)

Don't get drawn in Kyle. For some reason, trolling is allowed on the forums yet reacting to it is not.

Just let him get on with making an idiot of himself.
