What part did you fail to grasp, Mark?
The 'fast as hell' and 'diesel 205' part.

Was he really keeping up with your GTI-6 being properly nailed through the gears? I can imagine the derv having plenty of torque for midrange grunt vs the GTI6 perhaps, but I'm surprised it's as fast from a standing start. Gearing, revs, etc etc

yeah its strongest from launch, he hits peak boost at like 10mph, then again at like 30mph and again at 50mph

I wonder what MPG would I prefer![]()

Nah, can't agree. And as i was saying, when you know how to make the diesel power work, change correctly to keep it on boost, it is imo, every bit as involving, if not better than, a revey twin cam petrol lump
You kids make me laugh....maybe its because i hace spent 15 years driving and tuning n/a & turbo petrols, so its a novelty, but i am hooked for now, and for me i cant see me going back

I find it more enjoyable to drive when not giving it some, either. Smoother, quieter, less NVH.Yeah, diesel makes sense when you do mile upon mile on the motorway but I find a good petrol engine more enjoyable to drive when giving it some![]()
All the time he's having to change gear while you just redline it in 1st and 2nd? Hmm
I'm not being rude btw, it's a fair discussion, I just find it curious that's all![]()
I have driven 205 HDis having owned a 1.6 GTi petrol and met up with other owners, and let me tell you it was fast as hell and bloody good fun.

I know it seems odd but I dont hit my real power untill the 2nd cam which is around 4000rmp@25mph ISH where as hes already hit his power at 2000rmp@10mph. So his power is available earlier than mine. But as I said its also his downfall as it runs out of gears/rmp far too quick because he's only for 5 as opposed to my 6 and his are so damn short.

Give me your GTI-6 any day. I don't care if his dieseasel is faster.![]()
he's just kinda close to 60. He defends it to the death though, and all this mpg talk it bs because he's lucky to see 30mpg since the remap. He defends it to the death though, and all this mpg talk it bs because he's lucky to see 30mpg since the remap.

) with relative ease. Not the quickest car i've owned but its quicker than the majority of other traffic and not noisy at all (bloody 17" low profile tires make more noise than the engine)lol cheers, but hes not fasterhe's just kinda close to 60. Why can't people argue this properly? It's like being in graphics cards.
People like me are actually interested in choosing between the two, and all we get is "Diesel smells" "Diesels are slow" "Diesels sound crap" and other similar remarks.
Honestly, and some of you call yourselves car enthusiasts.![]()
I've owned mostly petrol cars but i really enjoy my 1.9 TDI Ibiza FR..... not noisy at all
