Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

looks like people are starting to lose interest in this game? i certainly have and im very surprised to say it since i love beat em ups.

If anything the more I play against better players and the more I learn, the more I am enjoying playing.

I've recently been playing this other ryu player and a blanka player, both of whom were at the gamerbase tournament, both really top lads. The Blanka player is damn good, probably the best blanka on my friends list, I struggle hard against him but realise I have to try new things. The ryu player uses a lot of FA against me and it has forced me to start doing the same.

Ojste, how are you managing on the stick? Do you think you still haven't reached the level you were on the pad? I can give your Ken a good game now, do you notice any differences in my game? I must be improving surely lol. I have stopped using low dp as much even though its bad habit, I still do because it can get me out of sticky situations lol but it lands me in them more tbh! I've not been playing much of champ mode because of the atrocious lag, constant disconnects and lack of games but just tried it now and won, played a 14000GP Ken in the final and I was using FA which has seriously strengthened my game.

I think I am steadily improving, my execution is still not 100%, I still miss the DP>FADC>Ultra sometimes which bugs me. Anyhow, I am definately getting a custom fightstick soon, which I am intending to use at any future tournys at gamerbase. The SF scene on ocuk really seems to be dying down which is a shame :( I think its time for a new SF4 league :p

BTW ojste, I notice when you do dp>fadc>ultra against me, with ken, the ultra is the spinning fire dp one. I always assumed you couldn't land the full ultra with ken from fadc but I swear someone did it on me, twice!???

Tekken DR feels so dire compared to SF IV, the 3D crap is just terrible.

6 looks worse.

SF > Tekken since day 1. :D

You not planning on coming back onto the PS3???

Oh btw guys for those interested, some vids from the last tourny at gamerbase, which I managed to reach the last 16 in :D;

The winner again was the same Balrog player as previously. The next one is June 14th, I intend to be there again. :)

ps. goukifafa had some INSANE balrog combos.

Having to much fun being in one of the best guilds in Europe on World of Warcraft along with some good friends at the moment, haven't played SF in ages. :p

When I do start playing now and then (again) I won't be playing the PS3 version, had too much grief from that horrible server browser. :D

Tekken 3 was good, still not a patch on classic SF though, every Tekken since has been pants.

that is true you learn as you play and better opposition makes you better. my problem with SF is that it is VERY easy and VERY spam friendly... there is a huge region of 'average' (because of how accessible they made it) compared to any other beat em up ive ever played. everything i hate about this game is down to how easy it is to do easy **** and break even. you are either average at this game (or crap i suppose) or insanely good... there is no inbetween, this means its really frustrating for anyone trying to progress. just my opinion of course :p.

i wasn't actually playing properly last time i played you, i stopped playing properly after about game 2... when i get annoyed i just go full offensive and disregard defense completely. i know what i have to do to win and i don't like it, i have to play safe with an aggresive character because i can get beaten by 'priorty' at any given point and it annoys the hell out of me.

as for the stick, its a great investment, i am about the same level now on both stick and pad. i still have some minor issues with ultras but thats about it... obviously some human errors too since im not a robot and haven't given it much time this past month.

also you still use jab dragon punch WAY too much, you are very telegraphed with it and im pretty much already prepared everytime you use it :p. trust me on this one, learn the BnB combos and your game will shoot up. i can go into it a bit more if you want but this post is getting a bit too long lol!

as for ken, he can combo full ultra from a counter hit hp shoryu (which rarely happens) because it has slightly different float properties so it allows for the full ultra to connect.

edit - id appreciate it if you could send me some psn id's of players from that tourney if you got any... may spark my interest in the game a little bit if i play those kind of players. i've played some G1 and generally good players on my list and they are pretty spectacular :D

If you want to progress you need to get offline. Online I can do damn well with random lp dp's to interrupt combos and avoid punishing. Offline tactics like bull-dogging make offensive play much easier and changes the way the game is played. I've pretty much given up with online as playing properly I do poorly and playing like an idiot I do well.

Not sure where to find any local competition though (Bristol over summer, Birmingham after that) :(

yea thats generally the case with most beat em ups but offline isn't really an option for a lot of people :(

It's not an option for me, but if I play online, the temptation to pick gief and thrash players ten times better than me through spam is just too great, so I try to play with university mates instead. This is an issue for me as I'll soon be in most peoples position of not having a bunch of free loaders around me who can waste loads of time gaming :p

I will msg you over PSN with some names, I've got a good Blanka player on my list and also this other kid I was chatting too there (hes only about 17-18?), and hes in G1 with Sagat. He's a pretty damn good Sagat player considering he uses the ps3 pad. He really struggled that day with the 360 pad but still managed to get to the last 16.

I also had afew games earlier with Tony888. The last time I played him was about a month ago and his ken wiped the floor with me. I managed to give him some games today and he thought I've improved a lot since the last time we played so maybe I am getting somewhere lol.

Oh yeah and where the hell has Rainiac gone?!?

Ojste, I do agree that SF4 is very easy to get into, I remember beating you with my poor Sagat when your Ken was clearly in a different league lol. Thats what has made the game so successful though, it couldn't be like 3rd strike which most people playing SF4 haven't even heard off! But yeah there is a barrier to break to be 'insanely good', sometimes I still get beat by someone I know isn't better then me but I just put it down to my own stupid mistakes. When it comes to a tourny or that league we had on here for example, the best player clearly came out on top. ;) Someone average can no way compete with someone good imo, everyone can get a flukey round or two but over a session of games the better player will always come out on top.

I find SF4 about trying to figure your opponent out, and then punishing them. I struggle a lot against my cousin king-core/Jambo, only because he knows exactly how I play and I know exactly how he does, and even though he doesn't ever do any fancy combo's, or FADCs, and just uses the basic moves I still find it very hard to beat him! Everytime I add something new to my game, after a long session with him he has then added it to his game aswel and vice versa.

The SF scene in manchester was not bad at all from that last tourny and that has made me wanna get more into it, because I know those guys are beatable. I will be back on a fightstick soon, getting a custom one made which should work on both ps3 and 360. :)

hehe don't get me wrong mate, you are clearly improving :). next step is combos though and especially hit confirming.

put it this way, the people at the bottom of the league did much better against me than the people at the top of the league. that outlines the main thing i dislike about sf.

mind games is what i love about all beat em ups. the pace and flair of SF what stood out for me and what drew me in in the first place :)

shame i dont like closer to manc otherwise i'd definitely be a regular there! do they do any casual sessions along side their tourneys?

I've been playing for about 1month, I'm absolutely fricking terrible. I litterally get my bum handed to me on a plate every game in championship mode. I'm trying to play as Ryu, done upto stage four combo trials but I can never get as far as scoring a combo in a match. To begin with I was pretty reckless but realised that doesn't work. More cautious is working a bit, someone jumps in i'll try and counter with a jumping fist but my problem is i seem to get pinned in after someone gets an attack on me. Any tips!?!?!?

I will try learn some proper combos once I get a stick, because with a pad either my timing is completely wrong or the buttons aren't sensitive enough. I might press jab 3 times really quick but I only get 2 jabs out. Or if I try c.lp > c.mk > fireball, the medium kick will just not happen. When I have a sanwa custom stick at least I will know its not the buttons, plus its so much easier to hit buttons on a stick.

Well you can turn up and play SF4 pretty much anytime you feel like, and the times I have been in there's always someone in there playing even if its the guys who work there! But its all on the 360 hence why I am getting a custom stick made which works on PS3 and 360.

'm trying to play as Ryu...Any tips!?!?!?

First of all you have a good character :D Ryu doesn't really have any weaknesses and is overall really solid. If you are just starting out, use block a lot, let the other person attack more and you just try to counter. You will have to get familiar with all the different types of attacks each different character has, I've been playing for months and still get caught out sometimes due to rarely facing certain characters.

You can normally sense when your opposition is going to throw you, well eventually you will. Learn to counter throws, and learn to use throw a lot yourself. Learn cross ups and learn how to block them! I swear I have faced ppl over 5000GP who don't know how to block cross ups  You can almost perfect them every round just with cross ups.

I assume you are using the pad so set the 3xP button somewhere accessible, Ryu has a lot of v v easy link up moves, and as Reality|Bites said, don't rely too much on hard punch/kicks. Add me if you are on PS3 for some games if you want, I'm using Ryu aswel :)

yeah i've got quickly bored with SF4, half of the fun was modding the stick so it was like a tourny one.

now am probably gonna sell my stick and probably the game as well, don't think it will hold my attention with the likes of Prototype and fight night 4 this month.

but on the plus side the game is brilliant and i loved the graphical style of it, capcom really created a winner when it coulda be totally crap.

yeah the stick is pretty special, loved your thread kreee on the custom stick making, was great to see peoples custom buttons and artwork, n yeah just thinking i do have several "vs" emulator games on the pc, but if i can get a good price i'll sell the stick.

its all down to the timing rather than using pad/stick, you just need to get used to doing links. his most useful links are: cr.lp -> c.hp and cr.lp -> cr.mk. neither are that hard and you can get really creative once you learn those.

If anyones getting tired/bored of SF4 theres no point in selling the game and the stick.

You might aswell keep the stick as there will be afew more Streetfighter games on the 360 yet to come
