it is horrible. im runnng it off my old pc (part o the problem admittedly) but is soooo slow. i slows the whole computer down. all the things in the backgrond and that stupid updater. NO. I DON WANT SAFARI! AND I DON EVEN KNO WHAT BOJOUR IS!! rant over.

Why, thank you for that insight. For what it's worth, I've grown to really like iTunes. I wasn't keen when I used it on a PC but on my Mac it seems to be a totally different product. It's stable and once you get the hang of smart playlists, it's superb. I use it for all my media.

PC + iTunes = awful

Mac + iTunes = Essential and awesome!

Everybody who has a mac probably likes iTunes!

Actually, since version 8 I think iTunes on the PC has progressed quite well and even though the main reason I use it is due to having an iPod/iPhone I still use it more than any other music playing software. Only second to using VLC for things I don't want inserted into my library.

If you bothered to do some research you would find that Bonjour is actually a very useful program (moreso on Mac than Windows) as it is a zero-config utility which helps people with little or no computer knowledge get about without hassle, such as installing network printers and such.

One example is if you enable media sharing on iTunes on one computer on your network and then open iTunes on another computer on your network you should see that library avaliable under 'SHARED' without you having to do anything.

Not to mention that Genius is actually one of my favourite features :)

Now that I've written that, I have to admit I find it hard to find any faults with the Windows version compared to the Mac version (aside from other program integration by default).... it just works for me, with no slowdown issues at all.

Much prefer Winamp, iTunes really doesn't manage well with over a few thousand songs, and I have over 10,000 on my main comp, all highly winamp organised and optimised.

Or Songbird, the mutant open source amalgamation of iTunes and Firefox/Gecko/XUL/whatever.

I like iTunes. It also works well for the non-music stuff like podcasts and managing an iPhone. For when I just want I barebones audio player, or to play FLAC, I use Cog

The Apple updater for Windows trying to take Safari along for the ride is lame. But not as bad as the Java installer trying to bundle Yahoo toolbar. Sun - what the ****?

Windows users get a raw deal in general when it comes to installing applications; rarely these days is there an instance when I don't find myself having to untick at least one box so that I don't end up with some variety of toolbar, media player or web browser, or have my homepage/default search settings hijacked. God knows why software developers think they have a right to do that.

Then again, Apple themselves aren't much better; installing iTunes + QuickTime nets you several fairly useless background services and tray icons. Again, they have no right in putting that stuff there without asking permission first.

My main music player right now, I'm only using iTunes for its podcasts right now, but once the update for podcast support in Songbird comes out, I'm nuking iTunes immediately, it offers nothing more than Songbird.

You must have seriously messed something up within iTunes to not be able to hold a few thousand, I have used mine with 5,000+ tracks for years with no issues.
