No not in the slightest. But if you really can't work out why Pakistanis come to the UK other than any other European country it shows a lack of knowledge of the History of Britain and the British Empire. There is little connection between Pakistan and most other European nations however there is one very significant connection between Pakistan and the UK. As a Commonwealth nation they have had historic ties with the UK and when we were asking for immigrants prior to joining the EEC it was the Commonwealth we turned to.

Hence why France has many more North African immigrants than us as another example of historic ties.

France is geographically close to North Africa. Immigrants from Pakistan have to travel through (or over) loads of other EU countries to get here, it's quite a big difference.

So you think it has nothing to do with France's historic control of North Africa? Remember we are talking legal immigration here rather than illegal immigration. It was easier for a Commonwealth citizen to get in to the UK, much like it was easier for an ex-french colony citizen to get in to France. And as most Pakistani immigrants arrive by plane these days it is pretty immaterial what countries they fly over.

With regards to asylum, you would have a point, as asylum seekers are supposed to stop in the first friendly country they come to. There's no such rule for immigration - you can go wherever you like, subject to the country's laws.
