Off-line single player or on-line multiplayer games?

I've not really played too many multiplayer games in the past but I'm finding L4D pretty good. However, playing the game on line has realised that my reactions as a gamer aren't that good as I thought they were.

What do you think?

Off-line single player - I can play on my terms and quit when I want to, plus you don't have to be subjected to idiotic american pubescents screaming at you!

I prefer online because i find its more challenging.

Ysmalari, thats why you mute in game chat and use team speak :D

definately multiplayer games. its so much fun competing against real people.
that said, i do like playing single player games sometimes. such as fallout and the final fantasy series

I think overall I prefer online but it is close. Online seems more dynamic in that the playing experience is constantly changing. Just look at TF2/L4D. In regards to the latter, the survival mode added a new lease of life to that game for me.

Although, I have spent 100+ in Oblivion and only just got bored (and its my 3rd play through!) lol!

My BF2 record pretty much speaks for itself. :D
Online for me as you cannot beat the sporadic behaviour of real opponents for a real challenge whilst gaming. On top of that you have the banter & the lolage, Flaming, Tea Bagging & generally pawning a real person can Not be beaten.

The only problem I have found online, when starting L4D for example, is that people have no patience with you when you are just starting out. I've been kicked off quite a few Vs and Survivor games in L4D for little or no reason really. The campaigns are better though as you tend to stick together but there is always someone that knows everything and is better than everyone else. This put me off TF2. That said, it was good the other night playing with a few fellow OcUK members who had the time for me :)

Depends on the game, so this is a tricky question. Offline single player like Deus Ex is an incredibly immersive experience, but multiplayer gaming in BF2142 and Left4Dead is some of the best fun I've had sat at at PC.

Enjoy single player games, but have more fun & enjoy the game more online. Though it does depend who your playing with, some people online are ***** & spoil the game for everyone. Single player AI is too predictable, playing against real life opponents is more challenging & more rewarding when you come out on top :)

I like single player games better in general, mostly because I don't really have much time for games no more and so everyone online is usually far better and more experienced than myself.

Thing to do is Announce your Noobness & have fun with it, Happens all the time around me on BF2, Nub joins game gives it large gets pawned leaves never plays again or nub joins Announces himself has Banter, gets pawned, laughs his head off comes back & gets better until he is pawning himself.
People want to have fun not be abused by somebody who has just started playing throwing accusations of cheating etc because he himself is not up to speed yet.

L4D is a Seperate case as the game can be controlled by very few players, 2 mates together can make a game really uncomfortable for a Nub & in the end they will kick him. Secret to online gaming is Don't waste your time playing with **** heads or on & **** servers, As soon as you notice they are players with crap attitudes then bail & join another server. You'll soon find a server like the ones I play on & then you'll understand what it's all about.
Playing online with randoms from All round the World at any time of the day or night can be Awesome fun.

As much as I love L4D, there's no doubt that the most fun I've had has come from games like Tomb Raider, Portal, Need for Speed, The Witcher, Silent Hill etc which are all single player. Portal alone has given me a huge amount of replayability through the use of third party maps.

I can't remember who it was who said that as soon as you start joining clans, gaming becomes too serious to be fun. I just joined a L4D clan and it's taken all the enjoyment out of it for me. I can't even be bothered to start the game up now, I've got other things to do anyway.

Single player myself... I don't mind the odd multiplayer game online but it needs to be with someone I know as there are too many idiots out there.

MMO's on the hand, well obviously grouping with people is a fantastic thing.

Online multiplayer. I don't get much joy out of beating AI opponents. Humans are always going to be far more variable, makes for more interesting matchups.

EVE I found by far the best for it as when you won, you were actually causing a loss to the opponent, in terms of the time they spent getting the cash for whatever you blew up. :D I played that too much though, it sucked up my time, so I keep away from it now and just play WoW, which is far easier to pick up and put down.
