BT to offer faster speeds

Will have to contact them and see about getting this "free" upgrade after agreeing to a new contract - have been with them for years now so if this works out it shouldn't be a problem.

Be nice to finally get off 2mbps as we can get much faster from our exchange!!!

If you mean your line's only capable of 2Mbps, you aren't going to get much (if any) more from ADSL2+. If it is capable of >2Mbps, you should already be getting it.

Well according to the BT website line checker we can seemingly get 6mbps (postcode) and 8mbps (phone number) so anything more than the 2mbps we're on at the moment would be nice!

So what are you currently on, fixed rate 2Mbps? You realise you could have upgraded from that 3 years ago?

It should have happened automatically, but that's BT Retail.

Our exchange is listed as follows with regards to services etc:

Unfortunately this is the parents house and they've been very slow to act on the fact they are paying £28 or so for a connection that could be a whole lot better - am going to push them more and more to get in touch with BT about it.

Bit of a wait for me.

The bell wire can pick up interference and sometimes you'll see a gain from disconnecting it. Your filters will provide the ringing current to make your phones ring, so it's not necessary.

Any one know what the "21CN PSTN Switch over target: Q3 2011" means in real world terms?

Nothing of any great value. It means your voice service will get switched over to the 21CN network in the 3rd quarter of 2011.

I'm still with BT on their "Option 3 Unlimited Usage" plan, i've checked Samknows.com and i have this...

21CN WBC status: Enabled as of 31/05/2009

Does this mean i can ring up and take advantage of this now?

I'm less than a mile from my exchange too if that counts for anything :)

Looks set to go, you can't ring up immediately though, we home users have to wait a bit untill mid summerish :(

One gotcha, is that existing customers who wish to upgrade will be asked to sign a new contract. Business customers can sign up now, whilst consumers will have to wait for a bit later in the summer (no exact date has as yet been announced).

Well, i`m with BT and get 3MB from there ADSL Max service right now, so i'm not really expecting much of a boost in speeds going ADSL2+ as I have quite a long line.

I expect i`ll get about 3.5MB on ADSL2+.

That's what I was getting with BT when I left even though I know it could and had been much quicker 4.MB to 4.5MB. With O2 I now get 5.6Mb but the real difference is that it's feels 10x quicker in the evening and my ping is about half of BT's.

What was your Line Attenuation when you were with BT and on ADSL Max??? My line attenuation is at 56.0 db, but does go down to 55.0 db in the winter months.

Again about the same as far as I remeber.

With O2 it now varies between 56.5 and 57 I think it did go up a touch with O2.
