The RS4 engine has direct port injection, the older V8 from the S4 doesn't, this is poss the biggest difference but there are not that many shared parts.
Housey, is there any evidence that the oil coking issue that's appearing has some connection to the loss of power?
The RS4 V8 was developed by Cosworth, I think - the S4 is merely a 'standard' Audi plant (some of the same bits, but generally very different).
I'm very surprised at the difference in power output between all those engines. There must be more than just inaccurate initial values being given by Audi: different fuels, different oil...?
I'm willing to bet they make 414hp brand new (or after a few hundred miles)
I think the valve coking then causes a power drop off.
they will make 414bhp when tested in an engine test cell at the relevant DIN/ISO standard, it is vey hard to cheat these figures and ou are in a lot of trouble if you do get caught. however it diesnt mean that if the engine isnt tested the same way you will get the same result. we struggle to get our chassis dyno to match our test cells and that is with a fully enviromental chamber chassis dyno.
most ecus now use torque based model calibrations so they are far more sensitive to environment than map based ecus and running them on most rolling roads will lead to large drops in power mostly due to the heat. keeping the air intlet temperatures especially at the level them would be found at when the car is driving around requires incredibly large air flow (think wind tunnel)
Wow, so erudite and eloquent. Talents I’m sure your parents are very proud of. One day when you get out, they might let you see them again. Do you expect to be taken as serious when no one knows who the hell you are? You arrive, you post in a fanboy (and American) style and expect everyone to take what you say as gospel?
Carry on like that and I see you lasting to 10 posts...
tests from a source that does NOTHING but independent dyno testing:
http://www.rri.se/popup/performancegraphs.php?ChartsID=281
~350 WHEELHP...
Done a dyno run on your RS4 then?
nope, they are pointless...
but did make 3 runs, using a $50k certified and calibrated traffic study GPS unit...
avg: 13.2/107.5...
wt, on a calibrated commercial scale 4090 lbs
gentle, mechanically sympathetic launches...and I'm no drag racer...
yet using the most accurate calculator I can reference:
415/4090 yeilds 13.26/108
107.5/4090 = 409 HP
13.2/4090 = 422
avg ~ 415...
Got pictures? and Hovis?
no, but I have the graphed GPS printouts...
and no, I won't give you the satisfaction of showing them...
because I don't care what you think...
I'm not out to, nor am I able to, change peoples minds when they are set in a pattern...this is the internet, any loony can log on
I know this:
I have an RS4, it's fast, fast enough
I have an e46 M3, the RS4 is much faster...
but neither matter, there are bigger issues to fret about...
like my dead parents approval and getting 'out' of somewhere (something), according to Housey lol
