Hi guys,
I used to frequent this forum a lot, it's nice to be back to be honest!

Quite a while ago a member posted a link to a photoshop script which basically duplicated the image, blurred it then layered a smaller version on top with a white stroke blend. It was an incredibly nice bordering script but since getting my new laptop I have been without it. I was wondering if anyone here could remember what I'm going on about and maybe knew where I could find it.

I'm sure it was written by a member of this forum and was probably on the sticky at one point.

if anyone could remember that would be great:)

It wasn't in the sticky, for sure, though there was a more simple set of instructions in there for normal borders.

As ChroniC said, it's simplest to just do it with an action. You can record it yourself - look up photoshop actions on youtube.

Do it yourself.

Record this action.

  • Create a new layer
  • Press M
  • Press CTRL + A
  • Select > Modify > Contract
  • Enter 10 (depending on what thickness you want the border and what size the image is) and OK.
  • Press Shift + CTRL + I
  • Fill the border which is currently selected with Black, White, Pink, Red, Purple or whatever colour you desire.
  • Press CTRL + D

Then press stop under Actions.

Unfortunately this only works with Photoshop CS2 or 3 and beyond (not sure which its started to be allowed). Any version before will have "contract" greyed out.

My only recommendation for those with this problem would be to use the Edit->Stroke function, however this only works on the photo layer and therefore you can't have a "floating border".

I believe you're talking about the one I made. If so http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17854466 post 11 links to the action I used :)

Stunning photos there, and that border is pretty impressive!

However, I can't get that action to work properly. It will complete all the steps however the finished image is just gaussian blurred and seems to have missed a step telling it to delete the area inside the border. The export doesn't work, however I am able to change that from your export properties to something similar.

Is it only meant to work with certain versions of PS?

It's greyed out in CS4 for me too...

Is that the same border you've used here peter: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14231137&postcount=14

Any chance you could upload the action? :)

What version are you using? I think when I made the script I was using CS3 as it was about a year ago now that I did it, but I've just tried it in CS4 and it seems to work except for the last step as the folder doesn't exist, but it leaves me with the image + border as I'd expect.

Edit: Just remembered, if you have several layers then it won't work properly, you may have to do Layer > Flatten Image before running the actions :)

Shame as I like this style of border;)
