Its been rumoured that there was a third season of Shakugan no Shana in production for a while so im glad its been confirmed now :). The first two series were excellent for the most part.

Wondering if we'll see it for the fall/winter season of this year.

Yeah probably from October and lasting till March as it was the case for the previous series and even Index as well.

I was just wondering if there is going to be any more GITS planned?

I know that Dreamworks are doing a live action version, but wondering if there was any more anime planned?

I would have expected them to give an indication of an October release like they did for Haruka if that was when it was going to be put out. I'm leaning towards it being released after then, either January or more likely April next year, I still haven't got around to watching the second series yet although I have watched the first series several times.

Haven't heard anything but that doesn't mean there won't be anymore ... in fact I expect there will be but the question is when?

I see that Bandai's R1 solicitations are out for August .... high points include:

Code Geass R2 PT 1 (Delayed from July)
Lucky Star OVA
Sola Complete Collection

Note that the last two are Sub Only releases, which was expected for Sola but is a bit surprising for Lucky Star. I've been looking forward to the collection release for Sola for the last year or so ever since the idea of the expensive singles was cancelled. It'll be a double dip for me as I have the R2(J) LE's.

Finished rewatching Kanon last night :)

Finished rewatching Popotan this evening. A strange little series with a principal plot feature being dandelions and rather a large number of nipples

Not sure what I'll watch tomorrow but I know what I'm watching Saturday ... my copy of Sky Crawlers on Blu-ray turned up today :D

Had an odd pile of emails from the US Rainforest site this evening too. I bought a significant amount of stuff from them back in '07, probably around the time Geneon pulled out of the R1 market and I was grabbing a lot of their series at reduced rate. Well it looks like they over charged me on customs deposits for shipping and an audit has thrown this up ... so I have a pile of refunds from them for these!

:DMy Freedom BR boxset arrived today from the rainforest
Bit of a panic when i started to play the first disc as it was in Japanese audio when i selected English,Then came to the conclusion that it was the Prologue/ova? and was only in Japanese as the other episodes(1+2) on the disc had English audio when selected
Will carry on watching the remaining discs this weekend in English but i think this is one of the series that sound better to me in the original audio.i.e. Japanese
Playback was a bit jerky i thought and i was hitting 70% cpu on playback on my HTPC :( strange,as it is a 2.4 intel dual core
Only using the onboard gfx but it is supposed to play BR fine(ASUS P5E-VM HDMI with 8 gig of 1066 ram)maybe a dedicated gfx card would play smoother?any opinions and recommendations on this?
looks like that BR player is getting closer to be bought all the time :)

Might be down to codec, does your codec support offloading to the gpu

I think that board has Intel GMA 3500 graphics and doesn't really offer GPU decoding offloading like you see on ATI onboard solutions ... that'll probably be the issue.

It was nice and smooth on the stand alone blu-ray player

IIRC the likes of ATI's cards (since something like the 2xxx series) and newer nvidia cards all have dedicated h264 decoding on board which allows them to deal with HD playback with ease, I suspect the Intel integrated chips are doing it entirely through drivers which can be very CPU intensive, even on duel core systems.

Whilst PDVD8 may support offloading it's really down to whether the graphics chipset is capable of meaningful offloading from the CPU.

Ah well, put a few pre-orders in:
Full Metal Alchemist OVA Collection
Sola Complete Collection
True Tears Complete Collection

Also received Clannad After Story Volume7 (R2(J)) .... comes with a book and a keyring of the "robot"

Just rechecked pdvd and while i set to hardware decoding in the menu before playing. While playing it is unchecked :(
Don`t know weather to get a gfx card to use(any recommendations?for bR disc play?)or go for a multi region Br player like one of the pannys
Any thoughts guys?

I'm no expert and you'd probably be better asking in one of the other sub forums but it's my understanding that the ATI cards down to quite a low spec do offloading so you may not have to pay that much for a card. I'd personally try and go for one with native HDMI and try and get one that did audio over HDMI too (I have no idea which ones which OcUK sell meet this criteria).

Whether to get a card or a stand alone player ... The player will likely be a lot more expensive than a replacement card ... but it's whether you want to be able to play Blu-ray back on the PC or not. Personally I haven't bothered with Blu-ray on my current HTPCs (only use them for digital media) and have a seperate multiregion player for DVD and Blu-ray which is the expensive way of doing it but means I can have a quite player and not have the PC on for normal watching.

Sup.

What's the deal with this thread then... Who wants a chat about Hajime No Ippo? :D

Can't believe they have strung this Takamura fight out to a forth week - I really need to switch to reading the manga.

That's normal for Ippo. If you read the manga it's just the same. And it was the same with the original series. But that's not as bad as Slam Dunk where they stretched one game out to about 20 episodes(it's still well worth watching, in spite of that). I don't mind sports anime doing it so much, though. Especially not when it's as good as HnI. The climax of the fight is well worth waiting for.

I hope they don't stop for the year at 25/26 episodes. There won't be nearly enough time to get in well, any of the fights I want to see, apart from this one.

So watched Sky Crawlers this afternoon. The animation and audio is extremely good with the flying portions in particular having an amazing level of detail in the animation. The character design is instantly recognisable as Production IG if you've ever seen any of their other work.

The plot though .... I didn't find it particularly good. It was one of those films where you felt you were only getting a tiny part of the story and the story whcih was given didn't really go anywhere. It was also very difficult to actually like any of the characters.

I'd say that it's worth a watch purely for the quality of the visuals but don't expect an exciting film which will drag you into it's story.

Well, I've been reading Yubisaki Milk Tea which is very, very strange in places. It's another cross dressing main character series but unlike in others there are various love triangles and other relationships which mean that everything is highly complicated. It's also rated at 18+ which I agree with.

Anime wise I've been rewatching Super Gals, which is a nice series and is deeper than initial impressions would suggest, and Glass Fleet which is quite good, although suffers from the Gonzo issue of 3D CG which doesn't quite fit with the rest of the animation, sci-fi series.

For the Gundam fans here, here is the progress of the 1/1 scale life sized RX78 Gundam being built in Odaiba Tokyo.

The thing is going to be awesome when it is completed and it will really show you the scale of what a Gundam, especially the original, will look like in real life.

Punynari

I've been (casually) following the gundam being built, it does kind of make you think that the UK is rather dull for sculptures really, what do we get the angel of the north, that angled spikey thing or a few metal bits stuck together in some random shape, most of which start to rust shortly after being built.
Yes I know we're not quite into our anime like Japan, but that Gundam is just so much more interesting than what we usually get, especially if they made it so you could get in a cockpit :p.

When it's completed all we need is a lightning strike from the heavens and hopefully this thing will magically come to life, yes including a cockpit out of nowhere :D.
