Red Faction: Guerilla

The mp in this game is a real blast. Love the backpacks - hammer + concussion pack owns!

Had a quick go on single player, only done the first mission but did anyone else feel the story could have been padded out a bit more? I'm all for getting into the action quickly but there wasn't much to really drag you into the conflict. And when the girl gives you the guerrilla handbook I was expecting a bit of an introduction to the Red Faction but instead I'm left standing there wondering what to do next. Its not like I want to be walked through the entire game I just think maybe the developers have traded some immersion in favor of getting you to blow stuff up as quickly as possible. Still think its a cracking game though :)

Had exactly the same, where got to that point and it was like "Ummm, ok, so what now?" But didn't take long after that to figure it out and get into it. But yeah, the story could have been fleshed out a bit better.

MP is hectic though. Think I am getting too old for these fast paced MP games... still, having fun with it :)

I'm quite tempted by this as I like the idea of the game but does the single player carry on from the previous games? I'd rather not get it only to find out I have no idea what's going on as I've jumped in halfway through a storyline kind of thing.

For some wierd reason this reminds me of playing jak & daxter 2 when I had a PS2!

Lookin forward to playin this when I get back from work later. I think I dreamt about blowing stuff up as well.

By the way the story is not complex SKaRT. I haven't played the opther two RF's and it was easy to become immersed in this one

Is the mp demo available on live? ive found a few sites mentioning it is, but for the life of me I cant find it. All I can find is the sp demo which is a little short, really want to see what mp is like.

Played a bit more of the sp this morning and I can't recommend RF:G enough. The physics alone are worth buying it for, I love figuring out the best spot to place charges to cause the maximum amount of destruction :D

I was complaining about the lack of immersion in an earlier post but I hadn't yet discovered all the little things that suck you in. One of my favorite moments came when I was carefully placing some charges to take down an EDF building and was discovered, coming under heavy fire. As this firefight was going on a couple of mining vehicles were driving past when the citizens jumped out and engaged the EDF! I knew this could happen if morale was high enough but it was still one of many 'wow' moment in whats turning out to be a brilliant game.

Yeah miners joining you in combat is awesome. :D

I was in a fire fight earlier with around six EDF guards getting my bum handed to me and a few people got out of their cars and helped me out. Was epic.

Think I need to drop the difficulty to normal. Am finding hard, well, quite hard :)

Struggling to get morale up at all, and am getting my butt handed to me when I take on certain missions. Certainly just can't go in guns blazing in this game!

Is the final game completely different to the single player demo because I thought that was truly awful. Amazed that they could take concept art by Massive Black and then make it that boring and detached to play :(

most immersive game i've played in a while. visuals look good to me. there's some mystery going on in the story which I didn't expect

I didn't like the demo but I am really enjoying the full game, if that helps. It really is the most fun I have had with a game all year - I thought I was getting bored with games, but turns out I was just playing a lof of boring games :)

Wasnt sure about this game i'd played the 1st game & loved it but wasnt keen on the 2nd, but judging from peoples comments this sounds like a blast. Will have to pick it up on pay day :)

Damn, some missions are just too hard on hard setting.

Trying to do a defend against incoming attack, but the sheer number of enemies is overwhelming. There's about 10 guys on my side, but there must be about 40 enemies that come in in a steady stream, and then I noticed a blimming tank!

If I have on gripe it's that you can't hold enough ammo for the machine gun. Am constantly running out of ammo for the thing. And on missions like the current one, I can't run up to collect the ammo from those I have killed because there are too many enemies.

Definitely playing this on normal difficulty from now on.

Anyone tried the 'hot potato' trick yet?

For example I had to do a raid on an EDF building with some faction members.

For some reason there was a truck on our 'side' so I stuck 8 remote charges on to it and drove it right in to the building, ran like hell and watched the fireworks. Mission complete.

One of my favorite gaming moments of the year so far TBH. :D

Awesome!

Thanks for the tip. Hadn't occurred to me to do that :)

Though I am still stuck with just 4 remote charges at one time. Just don't seem to be able to get enough salvage :(

Have dropped to normal difficulty now though, and find it's a better balance between fun/challenge/frustration for me.

You'll get more, make sure you destroy the buildings highlighted in red with a blue star as they're good for getting salvage from.

The blue EDF crates hold 4-5 pieces of salvage. And those ore deposits scattered all over the world hold 12 each after you get the ore upgrade. Make sure you get that first.

Oh and get the upgrade so you can pick up salvage whilst in a vehicle, saves getting shot at. ;)

Anyone managed to get a smoke stack to fall the way they want, or any other big building for that matter? I spent ages planning a controlled explosion to bring one down on an EDF building only for the damn thing to fall the wrong way :) I took out one side of its base and it falls in the opposite direction! Anyone got any tips or are the physics not quite that accurate?

theres a small like exercise during the game where u have to blow up a building with flammable barrels within a time limit, you have to place the barrels around the building and shoot it to blow them up. I suppose thinking about it the building was a lighthouse shape but was still standing with just about less than a metre of the wall left.. in reality the building would have gave way at about half of it left i'd imagine due to weight and stress.
So really im agreeing with you, i dont think the physics are that great....
