Red Faction: Guerilla

Anyone tried the 'hot potato' trick yet?

For some reason there was a truck on our 'side' so I stuck 8 remote charges on to it and drove it right in to the building, ran like hell and watched the fireworks. Mission complete.

Everytime I do that, I stick about 5 mines on the truck and they end up getting shot just as i'm about to crash in to the building and it blows me up!

Got the game yesterday and if you're into blowing things up get the game! :D
Just on dust right now and am loving the electric ray thing you get as a weapon.

I didn't like the demo but I am really enjoying the full game, if that helps. It really is the most fun I have had with a game all year - I thought I was getting bored with games, but turns out I was just playing a lof of boring games :)

yup my thoughts too.

Anyone managed to get a smoke stack to fall the way they want, or any other big building for that matter? I spent ages planning a controlled explosion to bring one down on an EDF building only for the damn thing to fall the wrong way :) I took out one side of its base and it falls in the opposite direction! Anyone got any tips or are the physics not quite that accurate?

Yeah, the physics and building destruction are far from perfect. Many times I have had a building standing when there was just a small piece of wall holding it up. Though I need to play around with it more, cause honestly I have just been shooting/detonating/ramming things til they fall without much thought as to how it goes down.

Still, it's not distracting from my enjoyment of the game. Actually sitting here now thinking I would love to skip this hell-hole called work and get back to playing it :)

Had a giggle last night.

I was travelling through Dust looking for red buildings on my mini-map and I found an EDF toll booth thing. Normall I'd just ram through it, but this one was under a bridge.

Four charges on each side of the bridge, BOOM bridge lands on toll booth and job jobbed.

This game just eggs you on to experiment. :)

I was tempted to do the same with the bridge, but I realised that I might need it in a quick getaway.

3 heat seaking rockets did the trick though! Then I ploughed through the wreckage and collected my scrap, lol.

Oh and for those having trouble with the "hot potato", stick em on the back of the truck and drive straight in.

Damn, some missions are just too hard on hard setting.

Trying to do a defend against incoming attack, but the sheer number of enemies is overwhelming. There's about 10 guys on my side, but there must be about 40 enemies that come in in a steady stream, and then I noticed a blimming tank!

If I have on gripe it's that you can't hold enough ammo for the machine gun. Am constantly running out of ammo for the thing. And on missions like the current one, I can't run up to collect the ammo from those I have killed because there are too many enemies.

Definitely playing this on normal difficulty from now on.
I know exactly the mission as I did exactly the same thing at that point, and I was thinking exactly the same thing regarding the ammo too :D

Loving the game, but loving the multi player more right now.

As for the hot potato thing, I did try that on one of the high importance targets, but the problem with that is a single stray bullet hits one of your bombs and bye-bye world :( I did however enjoy driving an APC into the middle of the building on my next attempt and dropping one of those quantum black hole bomb things - one of those took out the whole building :D

LOL nicely done.

I see you're still on my friends list from the COD4 days, gimme a shout when you're next on MP and I'll happily join ya. ;)

Has anyone picked up a M.O.A.B. yet? I'd love to shove a truck armed with one of those in to a building.

Just found a better way to get around this.

Drive over something so that you tip the vehicle over, then attach the charges to the under side.

:D

Cool, I'll send an invite next time I'm on for some :) Although trying to get through the single player too ATM.

Actually, it was an M.O.A.B I set off in the base, not the singularity bomb, I remembered last night. Yeah, it blew it up - not as impressive as I'd hoped it would be, but it took out the building well enough :D

Just found my second M.O.A.B too, so that'll be going on another high importance :D

Gooooood plan... I only discovered yesterday that you can turn your vehicles back over again, up till then I'd been running off ala GTA4 when I flipped a car on it's back!!

For some reason I can't seem to talk in multiplayer. Does a voice chat indicator show up when you talk?
There seemed to be people talking in the lobby but when I got in to the game I couldn't hear anyone. This was in team anarchy mode by the way

Not had a chance to touch my rental of this since Sunday :(

On the plus side, got a bag full of games and movies to trade in and will be buying it today :)

Though I am surprised there are so few people discussing it. Are there few people actually playing the game?

I never have a problem finding a game (got 10,000XP last night :D) but I haven't seen anyone on my friends list playing it except us three (eyetrip, TuThumbs and me).

I've got a couple of the hidden challenges now too and figured out what a lot of them are. Some of them are pretty tricky to get and extremely frustrating in game when you know you are close and then someone takes the chance away :( Others will just take time to get.

Very few people speak - most don't even have a headset on (me included). Could be the people you heard were on the other team when the game started. The icon that floats above team mates heads gets a little mic symbol when they're talking.

Yeah I think you're right on that.
Multiplayer seems like a lot of fun, I played a bunch of game modes last night and all of them really shined. Still playing through single player, just liberated Oasis so i'm not really focused on multiplayer yet. Multiplayer will be great if there are more people talking in future.

Its funny that there aren't many people talking about this game but I guess that's just because RF:G wasn't hyped up like some other games are. For me personally, this game beats GTA4.
I'd give RF:G 9/10 overall so far

Why can't you tunnel through rock like you could in the earlier RF games?

Rock is really just the terrain which makes the shape of the landscape. There wouldn't be any point burrowing through the rock even if you could. Anything actually worth breaking through is able to be broken, i.e. walls around bases or compounds, walls of buildings holding hostages etc.

I think that was the problem with the first one though. You could break through rock but it left it extremely hard to actually design the game well. They had to implement 'unbreakable' bits of rock and scenery which just didn't make sense. I remember one example I came across a window that was indestructible. However the rock around it wasn't. So I demolished all the rock and it left the whole window just floating in mid air.

In this one all man made structures are destructible. But no rock is at all. I understand the change however I would have liked to see them keep in some ground deforming - just not to the extent of the first. But again, it would probably be much harder to do in the sandbox world the size it is - where you can re-visit any part and expect to see it in the state you left it.

I just got this today and am absolutely loving it. Just had a defend the area mission where I was pinned down at the back of a cavern type location by a good 50 troops, so I jumped in to one of their cars and rammed it straight through the building they were surrounding and managed to turn the situation completely on its head. There are so many more tactical solutions in this game than any other I've played. Can't wait to try multiplayer too. :D
