What can you do to Clio 182 ?

At least your car looks awesome :) Clios leave a lot to be desired imo.

Seeing as you drive a Porsche I'm guessing you know how to pull off at speed? If so, i wouldn't worry about it. More fool him for spending so much money on a car with such horrid aesthetics.

What do you drive then Gustov? Just because someone drives a Porsche doesnt mean they can drive. Im not saying the op can or cant drive just seems like a generalisation.

Gustov, you like the Mini. Which isn't that great to look at, from a blokes point of view.

However, a Clio 182 in RB is a MUCH better looking car.

I get the feeling you drive a clio and I've hit a nerve

I drive a 1.25 fiesta. I'm 19 and a student. Not once did i say that just because someone drives a Porsche they can drive. i just made an assumption, it's not like i said ' he has a Porsche so must be an awesome driver' I was predominantly talking with regards to aesthetics and if anyone wants to argue that I'll condemn them to hell! :)

I'm currently saving up £2500/3000 to put towards a loan to a Mini Cooper S / JCW for when i graduate.

Why are you comparing looks of a Mini and a Clio, when this thread is about a Porsche getting beat by a Clio, therefore asking what you can do to them.

Why are you being pompus? Read up and you'd know why. I'm not the one who brought it up. Jongeeone was and you'd know by reading his post

I'm obviously going to try and prove him wrong.

The Mini cooper s GP wasnt far off £30k new was it? Few K more and you could have a cayman....

22k actually

Here is JCW model, available for around 10k now

I really fail see how the clio looks MUCH better, but its all down to preference :)

For me BMW vs Renault is an easy choice.

The top gear review said the clio feels cheap, looks cheap, drives like a tripod and makes an irritating ongoing noise. When he mentioned the price that's when he started saying the car made him happy simply because no other car will go that fast for the same price.

For me that's not a good enough reason to justify a purchase. Whereas the Mini is very well known for being a very well built car in terms of handling, acceleration(as is the clio) and build quality.

Gustov, you were right btw i do drive a clio but you didnt hit a nerve fella. The whole post just seemed quite a sweeping statement.

I agree thats a cracking looking example, it is however pretty extensively modified. JCW cooper s are good looking non the less. Clio's now are circa £5k so still a different price bracket to the jcw.

The clios by no means a great looking car although imo its holding up reasonably well especially given the designs age. The main reason i bought my car wasnt for looks, it was bang for buck. I paid £6.5k for my 2004 182 18months ago. Without going for a significantly older or more expensive car not a lot touches it for the sheer thrill of driving it.

Back on topic now...

If the op reads this i would be really interested to hear what colour the car was and what area you were in at the time. All being well either myself or someone else can find the spec of the car out for you. Ive been out a turbo'd 182 that was pushing 290bhp and similar torque figures. BHP/Ton ratio your looking at 270ish. Seriously quick car.

Well as previously mentioned jeremy Clarkson said you'd find it very difficult to find a car for the same price that will go as fast as the clio.

I'm not denying it must be a very fun car to drive and it does look pretty nice. It's just I feel as if they Mini is more of an all round package.

You can pick up a cooper S supercharged for £6.5k now :) 163bhp I believe. The Turbos (2007>) are 175bhp

12 months is a long time in the car industry though :)

I'm happy you enjoy your car :D What driving is all about!

Definitely a consideration for my second car... I don't think I'll want to move away from the go-kart fun of the mini even then. Build quality/comfort is hardly an issue considering I drive a car with about 4 different rattles from various points on the dash (I think one may be a wing mirror...must check one day), and is made of metal which rusts when rain ever so much as glances at it. The drivers seat is a spongy piece of crap too...love it though :)

I do absolutely adore Clio V6s...fantastic looking (a bit chavy, yes, but awesome still), and just bonkers!

I drive a Mini Cooper S.

I think the Clio is a good looking hot hatch, it also handles better, more fun to drive, and it being a tripod? Thats a great thing. Nothing better than a hot hatch cocking its rear leg.

Yea its less refined, the interior isn't going to be as great but its what a hot hatch is ment to be.

Check out the Mini review against the Clio and give us your opinion Hxc :)

I'm not saying Topgear are the be all and end all of car reviews but its a start.

Tried a JCW

I've heard they Clio and the Mini both have very very good handling.

The JCW is hardly the comparison to the 182 though is it? Price wise it's much, much closer to the V6 which has the added "rare" factor bumping up the price.

Better looking than any new Mini IMO, although admittedly not exaclty your normal hot hatch, having 2 seats and all.

My opinion on Clio vs Mini? I'd rather have a Clio as they, from all I've heard, are more fun. Less quiet on the cruise or whatever, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. Thrashing the nuts off a car for power is fun, too. I love the sound when you hit 5krpm in the mini...

Yes they do both have very good handling, thats actually probably not a lot in it.

The Clio is just so much more raw compared to the Mini.

Depends how you like your engines aswell, the Mini being S/C has a linear torque delivery, with lots of it being availble lower in the rev range. Whereas a Clio needs to be abover 5k RPM before the power comes in.

Depends on how you drive.

Those V6s look stunning from the front so i googled it in anticipation.

Then i saw the back :( Looks like the behind of an overweight American woman :D
