**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

According to Skysports news Thomas Vermaelen is saying he has signed for Arsenal...hopefully he can toughen up our defense should we sign him. Id hate to see Toure go to Man City, lets hope he doesnt and as much as id love to see his brother play with him...i dont think its gonna happen.

On another note West Ham Utd has been taken over by CB Holdings...interesting piece of news that is...wonder if they will have some money to splash around in the off season.

Hope fully that is true. Nice to see new blood in the team, plus he is experienced. Not heard of him before though.

Neither have i but anything to toughen up our defense is a good sign. Hes captain of Ajax isnt he?? so must be pretty decent.

Looks like Kaka is well and truly on his way to Real Madrid from what skysports news is saying...Valenica and Ribery are also being linked to RM as well...looks like RM will be making a serious challenge for CL honours next yr along with the La Liga title.

Villa willing to pay £55000 a week to owen on a two year contract. Good deal for both me thinks if he can keep himself fit. If not it's a lot of money for someone who does not pay. Gamble either way.

How old is Fabregas? Do you consider him not experienced?

I dont know for sure but if he is the Captain of the team then he should have been around a few years.

Fabregas has been playing at one of the top teams and for one of the top countries for a while though. Ajax are a notoriously youthful team. Just not sure why you would say experience is a bonus when you already have the likes of Gallas, Toure, Silvestre, Sagna, Clichy, Eboue.

Youth and experience are two different things. You can still be experienced and youthful.

Experienced doesnt just mean old.

Just checked:

75 (64 for Ajax) Apps for Club and 21 for Belgium. Sounds experienced to me

I think the point is we've bought someone in a position we need who isn't still green. He's the Captain of Ajax, he's played plenty of games and had european experience. I guess its much like buying Arshavin, lots of people were saying he didnt have enough experience at 27. It is a nice change from the sub 20 year old purchases we've been known for recently.

Out of those you have listed Shamikebab only 3 are CB's. Silvestre is gash and Gallas could well be on his way.

Senderos has 104 appearances for club and 31 for country.
Djourou has 58 appearances for club and 23 for country.

So he's no more experienced than the defenders you already have!

its pretty simple Djourou and Song are young, inexperienced but most of all, not very good at centre back, no matter how many years they play for they will never be first team in a top 4 team, they aren't anywhere near that level to start with. A good 23 yr old player, or a good 19 yr old player are better than not as good players.

THis whole thing with experience is so stupid, Rooney isn't hugely better than he was 4 years ago, similar amount of goals/assists in a similar league playing a similar way. You're good, or not, its that simple. If you took a ratings system out of 10, say rooney was an 8, experience could take him to a 9. Call song a 4, experience won't make him a 10, if lucky, he'll become a 5, its still not remotely good enough. Young or experienced, you bring in a centre back you'd call a 7 or above and its a massive improvement on what we have(in cover at least) and thats what Arsenal need.

Unfortunately I've never seen the Ajax guy play, nor heard of him, can only hope he's good if he's joined but won't know till preseason games kick off.

No, they just aren't very good, its really that simple.

The way some people on here go on about experience, if experience was ALL it was about, every single 34 yr old defender would be equally good as each other, there would never be a 20 yr old player who was better than a 25yr old player, etc, etc.

Experience makes marginal amounts of difference, a crap player is a crap player no matter how many games he's played. Likewise a world class talent will show how good he is straight away.

If thats not true, and its all experience, name me more than 3 players who were world class at 30, and crap at 20, infact name me 5 players in the premier league who improved massively between 20 and 30. I can name more who got worse and put in less effort as they got cushy pay checks, than those who got better.

You need to learn to be succinct, you could have just concisely said "You can't polish a turd."
