EA VP: We have maxed out the 360

Who isn't a joke. Activision Epic Ensemble Ubisoft 2K and so on, you could find reasons for them all to be a joke. The fact is EA are pushing and improving year on year their sports titles where others are standing still.

The best games I've played on the 360 all have EA on the cover.

EA produce games on both consoles, 360 is the easier console to program on due to the complicated PS3's nature.

Yet you guys say its down to lazy devs but they say they have headroom on PS3 still?

sloppy coding will surely be on both sides of the fence, I guess it just means due to the room for fault on PS3 they can be sloppier for longer there. Which is probably not a good thing

It was really bad on the PS3 before.

all this talk of the 360 being done for got me looking at a few previous console dates.

Taken from Wiki
SNES 1990 - 1999
Megadrive 1988 - 1997
PS1 1995 -2006
PS2 2000- current
PS3 2006 -???
XBOX - 2001 - 2006
XBOX 360 - Nov 2005 - ???

Interesting looking at the history of the consoles amid all this 'maxed' out talk. I would imagine talk will start next year of the next gen consoles with 2011/2012 being launch dates.

However I still think there are many many more games to come that will give better graphics on the current generation of hardware we just wont be blown away like we were when the 360/PS3 launched.

the ps1 did not have an 11 year life cycle

ps1 95-99
ps2 00-05
ps3 06-10/11 (going by previous versions)

ps4 should be coming out 2012 maybe 2013 due to delays i expect - remember you heard it here first

Production Run

Lasting over 11 years, the PlayStation enjoyed one of the longest production runs in the video game industry. On March 23, 2006, Sony announced the end of production. However, Duel Masters: Sempai Legends!, the last game for the PlayStation was released on September 29, 2006.[11]

Wikipedia disagrees with you.

EA need to take a leaf out of Rage's books. Show EA Kameo and watch them cream their pants. Kameo was the most incredible title out of all the launch day games, and put a lot of games 1yr on to shame in terms of performance and engine capabilities. Hell I even wrote to Rage to congratulate them back then.

Did they ever write back?

Because Rare made Kameo. Not Rage. ;)

The life cycle of the PS1 did not stop the year before PS2 was released, and the life cycle of the PS2 did not stop the year before the PS3 was released.
Hell god of war 2 came out 2 years after the PS2's life cycle had ended by your logic

There are still games being release now for the PS2 in 2009, and it outsold next gen consoles the other month.

So your life cycles are inherintly flawed.

If theres a dev team that can max out a console, its Crytek. They don't design their games for todays systems.

It depends what you mean by max out, in console terms I would define it as getting the best from the hardware available, Crytek games are generally a "throw the kitchen sink at it and make it squirm" affair.

Hitting the limit is nothing. Hell, I'm not a programmer but I could probably write a horrendously resource hungry program that would max a top of the range piece of hardware within a year. I'd have hit the limit but wouldn't have anything to show for it!

The limit isn't the problem, it's how you use the power up to the limit. I'm fairly sure a lot of games hit the PS2's limit before Shadow of the Colossus (just an example), but did they look as good?

It's just devs being idiots. I suppose if they've maxed it out at least they know what they have to work with or something...

EA making excuses for their crap upcoming titles no doubt.

seriously, do EA release crap games?

The 360 has had a decent run but I failed to see anything in the E3 that suggests it's got much life left.

:o

But there are always glaring bugs and average visuals

one has to wonder what you are after if EA have average visuals in games.

They are average, nearly every game they release is a rehash of the engine they used before and never carries any advancement over the prior that's enough to warrant another £40.

Every NFS game for the past 3/4 years has had the same game engine and they have suffered random and irritating slowdown.

The problem is, EA cover all bases and have a lot of dev houses under their wing but they rish them and interfere too much. I'm not saying it's all bad, but becasue there is no alternative (EA swallowing dev houses and all that) we are not seeing the development and advancement of years gone by.

Maybe EA do have a point. I mean, if the developers don't demand and take advantage of better technology, MS and Sony won't developmew hardware. The problem is, they don't seem to let their developers use the hardware efficently and things seem rush or unfinished in places.

Enough people have posted and complained about this publisher enough over the years, it's quite aparent the gamers feel there's something lacking. I feel sorry for the developers who are having their creative freedom nailed to a board then beaten and tortured for year after year.
