The all encompassing BNP thread - keep all crap in here.

How cynical.;)

From personal experience of the police failing to turn up in time and the reasons why offered on these forums; "Wow, do you think the police are at your beck and call? They must have had more important crimes to attend to!"

Difference here was the police knew he was going to visit give a speech.

I bet if 100+ BNP protesters turned up to a news conference by a tory MP and threw eggs at him they would all have been arrested and charged under some anti terrorism law or something.

What would be better is to make a sensible peaceful protest and actually challenge him in debate rather than stoop to acting like facists themselves. All they demonstrated is that the only way they can articulte themselves is by violence and intimidation.

They behaved in exactly the same manner as many BNP supporters are supposed to act. Nice work you bunch of hippy students.

The idiocy of their actions seems to have been totally lost on them. Lets hope these students dont end up running for office, we will all be forced to wear sweaters and drink coco while sitting round in poetry classes!

It does begs the question though, where exactly were the police when the leader of a fully legal political party was getting assaulted?
They were all members of the Black Policeman Association and as such they actively disagreed with the BNP so refused to protect him (j/k btw, I actually dislike the BNP).

Driving at a sensible speed? The Government hasn't changed the speed limits overall as far as I'm aware so are you asking for an increase in the speed limits?

We do have a democratic government, the expenses scandal perversely illustrates this point to an extent as people who have abused the system are being removed.
No, but the government has put up about 1000,000,000,000,000 .... 000,000 speed cameras; and have changed (probably local government here though) a fair few limits down.

The expenses has proven just how corrupt the lot are; there are plenty of MPs in both parties who have stayed in their job due to be too influential or too "matey" with Brown.

Look at Darling ..
It was also reported that Mr Darling "switched" the location of his second home four times in four years, allowing him to claim thousands of pounds towards the cost of both his Edinburgh home and for the London flat.

In further disclosures about MPs, Mr Darling was said to have spent £1,400 for help filling in his tax return over two year

David Miliband
The foreign secretary claimed almost £30,000 for doing up his £120,000 constituency home over five years

Both still around despite doing up their houses at our expense

the funny thing all the protestors were white, i didnt see an non whites in the clip.

Free speech for those you agree with, censor and ban those you don't agree with eh?

I think there was a party in Germany who used to do that.

Godwin's Law says that should be an automatic loss of the debate for the reference but unfortunately too many Nazi references have dotted this discussion and it's bit late to stop it now.

No one was really removed, just repositioned.

I could have sworn there were resignations. Whether there were enough or not and whether the correct people went is a matter for debate but some people have certainly left Parliament because of this.

//edit rypt: they were allowed to "do up their homes at our expense", that's what some of the expenses were for - you can argue it was outwith the spirit of the scheme but not outwith the technical legalities of it.

True, though Brown has been rather selective in who he has exonerated and who he has thrown to the dogs. Still, with a bit of luck the corrupt ones will be voted out or deselected come the next election.

The first paragraph of the expenses rules said that any expense claimed should be justifiable to the general public. This paragraph was mostly ignored though and instead simply the bullet points were followed.

EDIT: besides these were their family homes, not just their London work homes

Members of Unite Against Fascism, a new group supported by trade unions and MPs from all parties including Tory leader David Cameron and veteran left wing campaigner Tony Benn, said they wanted to "defend democracy" against what they regard as the "fascist" and "racist" policies of the BNP.
Can you get much more ironic than this? Defend democracy by silencing those you disagree with  Fascist behaviour.

I hope the other parties will come out and condemn this appalling act. I won't hold my breath.

Interesting these sound like the typical people who want to protect free speech as long as you agree with them. The fact that the election process was completed legally and without issue should really be the end of it, complaining just because you dont like the result seems a bit pointless, the results are there and will not be changed.

It's ok to say you disagree with anyone or anything just as loudly as you want and fine to try to infulence other people's views, it's not OK to try to stop other people expressing their views. As much as I hate the crap DirtyDog et al come out with I wouldn't want them banned for saying it, so long as I can express my opinion on it. If there was another legitimite reason for banning them, that would be great;)

 how are they trying to silence them, this is democracy at work. they aren't trying to ban them.

Unite Against Fascism is a new national campaign with the aim of alerting British society to the rising threat of the extreme right, in particular the British National Party (BNP), gaining an electoral foothold in this country.

We aim to unite the broadest possible spectrum of society to counter this threat.

So not doing what you say. they aren't trying to silence anyone. just to inform the public. Because most people as shown in this thread. do not know BNPs fundamental racist policies as shown in their own publications.

I'll defer to your greater knowledge here, I should perhaps have used the future tense, resignations mean that people should be leaving Parliament because of this.

Indeed, in up to a year and with a 5-figure golden goodbye payout or whatever it's called ;)

There is only one MP who is actually standing down 'now', to my knowledge, and that is Ian Gibson whose resignation as an MP will apparently result in a by-election this year.

Nick Griffin is hardly a paragon of free speech, what with him sending 'BNP security' round to ransack the house of a potential rebel within his own party and steal her computer.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7152657.stm

Ms Graham claims that the party's "Security Department" broke into the home she shares with another prominent activist - ironically, the Head of Security Matt Single - and removed her computer and other personal information.
