iPhone 3Gs O2 Petition!

You have to admire Apple. The average iphone buyer is so gullible and fashion obsessed that they bought the original iPhone despite the fact it was missing a plethora of features found in other phones since the turn of the century.

Then they added some of these features and the cool-squad paid Apple even more money for a completely new phone just to get them.

Now they've done it again! :D

Problem is the iphone OS is so damn good, no other OS matches it, the Palm Pre is close - if only Windows Mobile/Symbian can get their acts together to take advantage of superior hardware/more 'open' OSes. AT the moment I am serious doubting Symbian/Nokia to sort themselves out.
ovi, ovi store, ngage, a host of other apps all great ideas with terrible execution. I could include S60 v5 in that, it is an ok OS but terrible GUI/effects and its getting so messy. the iphone has been out for YEARS Symbian, and you are nowhere near!

Sorry for the rant!

I really don't understand why people are complaining...

You can't expect O2 to give free upgrades before a contract is complete... idiots to be honest :)

This petition won't do anything. o2 have the monopoly when it comes to iPhone, and Apple currently have no plans on changing to another provider.

Its damn greedy! whats the age old saying "give them an inch and they take a mile"? I think that applys here

IMHO o2 should NOT have offered the first generation of iphone customers to upgrade early when the iphone 3g came out, because they did so then customers now expect the same.

Customers are idiots not being able to tell the difference between a phone which is majority subsidised by O2 (i.e. the iPhone 3G), and one which is not (i.e. the iPhone 2G, which had a BIG upfront outlay).

Simply got no sympathy with anyone moaning about the cost of upgrading the new iphone. Tough. Its a new gadget, pay for it.

However I have to say the bloody tethering fees are ridiculous.

I pay for the 'unlimited internet' on my contract and use it quite happily with my E71 being used a Bluetooth modem.

When I rang Vodafone to see if that was ok the answer was 'well that is whats its for'.

O2 can stick the tethering fees where the sun dont shine the robbing ********

Why? Every other O2 customer has to pay £14.99 per month on top of their phone for 3GB of mobile broadband. Why are iPhone customers any different?
They are complaining about the tethering charge because with most phones/providers you can do this for free. If it was a fiver or something i doubt they would care but i tend to agree 15 quid is a bit of a rip.

someone who is bored phone o2 and ask about their "tethering fees", im going to have a wild guess and say that the agent doesnt have a clue what you are on about ;)

Where on earth has this 'tethering' term come from? I've used mobile data for years (Since 2000 actually, so have that, Apple fanboys) and have never once referred to it or had it reffered to as 'tethering'.

There is no 'tether' anyway as its wireless these days?

Tethering != mobile data in general.

Tethering = using your mobile phone as a modem for another computer. You tether a phone to a laptop (via Bluetooth, USB, Wifi, whatever).

I tether my HD with a cable :p
Haven't got round to digging out my bluetooth dongle yet. Plus, that means it charges at the same time.

I used to know it as "using your phone as a serial modem" now it's either "Bluetooth DUN" or "Bluetooth PAN", what would you suggest as a generic term that covers using a mobile phones connection for one of these (and more) if not "tethering" which everyone else seems to use?

i tether my iPhone via USB cable usually as it saves on battery, if only jumping on briefly when out and about though i tend to tether via wifi.

I'm aware of that, and as I said, I've been doing it for years without ever hearing of this silly name. Where is the tether? There isn't one.

Is your PC tethered to your DSL Modem?

The tether is a generic term for connecting your phone to another device - whether it is via Wifi, Bluetooth, USB or another serial cable.

I am surprised you've never heard of it before. I've been aware of the terminology ever since Bluetooth 1.0.

Oh dear, can't people get over the fact that you have to wait until the end of your contract to upgrade like every other phone on every other network?

That petition wont get you anywhere.
