Holy crap they certainly aren't taking breaks on this are they.

I mean sure, the body parts were already built and all they needed to do was assemble and fit it all together, but damn, talk about efficiency!

If like a whole army of life sized Zaku's including a red one appears out of nowhere, then I am sure Japan needs not worry about North Korea's missles :D.

So watched Sky Crawlers this afternoon. The animation and audio is extremely good with the flying portions in particular having an amazing level of detail in the animation. The character design is instantly recognisable as Production IG if you've ever seen any of their other work.

The plot though .... I didn't find it particularly good. It was one of those films where you felt you were only getting a tiny part of the story and the story whcih was given didn't really go anywhere. It was also very difficult to actually like any of the characters.

I'd say that it's worth a watch purely for the quality of the visuals but don't expect an exciting film which will drag you into it's story.

Cool thanks going to get this on BlurRay :D

Here's an interesting one, there's been a new reprint of the Azumanga Daioh manga in Japan and ~60% of the art has been updated, and some of it looks like it is an improvement. It would be nice if Yen Press's retranslation used the updated art on their rescued release.

Speaking of manga, this week I've been mostly reading Kare Kano (aka His and Her Circumstances). This is a looooonnnnnng series with 20+ volumes of which I am on number 6. It's good, but not particularly light or particularly quick of plot. It is good though. It's my commuting read at the moment :)

Also read Welcome to Wakaba-soh from Yen Press, ... I wanted to like this as the plot set up was, whilst not original, a good standard one ... but the art was not great at times and the actual plot implementation lacked flow, it really felt like it was someone's first attempt and maybe they should have done a few more doujinshi first.

Next up will be volume 1 of Samurai Harem (aka Asu No Yoichi) ...

On the anime front I've been re-watching season 1 of Super Gals. On the surface it seems really shallow but it draws you in and some of the story lines have more depth. It has some nice characters and stories.

Re Asumanga, if they do update the english version as well I think I may end up buying it, I really enjoyed the anime and have had it in my "to buy later" list on a couple of retailers for ages, and that might actually get me to buy it :p

I finished Clamp School Dectectives the other night, which whilst fun wasn't as good as most of the other Clamp stuff i've seen (Angelic Layer is much better).

I'm just starting The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye now, which is looking like it's going to be fun/interesting (just finished episode 3).

I think that Yen's Azumanga release is going to be worth getting anyway as the information I saw indicated that they are re-translating it from scratch. The ADV Manga release had issues, in my opinion, as it was over localised for the US market (at times it read as if it was about a bunch of american students instead of japanese ones) ... this made it a bit off at times.

The anime was less localised than the manga release and hence was better to watch.

The night shots of the Gundam are pretty cool now that it's lit up (and apparently the head moves)

Too beautiful for words.

And to think, to give it more bling, all they need to do is modify the RX-78 a little bit, slap on a GN-Drive on it's back, let it spew out magical pixy dust and there you go, it will then become the GN-000 0 Gundam! :D

Well finished Glass Fleet this weekend which was an ok sci-fi series. Had it's faults but was a reasonable watch.

Also marathoned through Clannad After Story ... well .... it's just excellent and even knowing what was going to happen it was a joy to watch. That's not to say it wasn't emotionally draining at times as it was, I was unashamedly in tears at several points, and watching a lot of the episodes in a row was not for the faint of heart. But it was just so, so good.

From this afternoon the second half of episode 13, episode 16 and last main episodes were my favourites ....

edit: I see that Optimum have announced Ocean Waves, i.e. the Ghibli they hadn't released, for August 17th. I quite like this film, I have the R2(J) release which has english subs on the main feature, and strongly prefer it to Only Yesterday which is in the same genre.

I think thats why its so good because its so emotional. I think some of the better anime series out there are the emotional ones (Eureka Seven for example). I think its one anime ill never get tired of watching again even though as you said you know whats going to happen.
