**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

From another forum i posted:

A weird one this. Everyone has this hatred for him but you can't deny hes a world class player and got united out of some major situations.

Remember his 9 minute goal against FC porto that put us through? He's done loads for United, sad to see him go.

HOWEVER for that price we can certainly get other players to fill the gap :)

GL to him, lets hope Real wont dampen him like they did with Beckham.

Reading above link, I am surprised that the Spanish taxpayer isnt annoyed that rich footballers and bankers are paying a tax rate lower than most of them.

The TV rights issue is another thing which explains the uncompetitiveness of the league lower down.

Quite a lot of it from the British taxpayer?

Aren't Madrid largely funded by the Spanish Government? Who in turn take one of the biggest slices from the EU pot... 3rd biggest I believe??

It's kind of true.

Real have got funding for these transfers from banks, just like they did last time Perez was elected. However last time they nearly went bust and were forced to sell of their training ground which the local government just so happened to buy for a huge fee and iinm it was sold back to Real a while later for considerably less.

Yeh but saying the British taxpayer pays for madrid's football players is incredibly tenuous. Globalisation means you can make an infinite number of links.

An intersting comment made in the responses to the times article. How big would a club be if London had only one major club? Could fill a 150k stadium every week.

Apparently Madrid will turn their attention to Clichy next

Oof, he won't want to leave, can't see why Wenger would want to sell him either unless they offered 30m+. City offered £25m in January for him, can't see Wenger having changed his mind since then.

There's not a player who can replace Ronaldo, maybe Messi but you'll never get him. Saying otherwise is silly.

There isn't at the moment but in the future there may well be.

Players like Ronaldo come and go. No doubt he's a great player but there's no point in crying about it. He's wanted to go for a while and we may as well cash in while we can.

Nobody seems that bothered he's gone, but it isn't realistic to think Man Utd will find a player who'll do what he did, as good, in the near future.

I think that a lot of the real man utd fans are more allied to the club and thus have not loved the way that ronaldo has conducted himself at times. There is no doubt that we wont replace him with a better player but I think that we have the potential to become a better team without him.

Barcelona ruined us in the CL final with their football not with a single players goal.

£80 million + whatever our transfer budget was, allows us to almost completely rebuild the team and replace/strengthen where we are so clearly weak.

We can now hunt down a powerhouse midfielder and wave goodbye to Hargreaves and his dodgy knees, good as he is, he cant play if he is on crutches, we can get a decent right back, cover for Evra, someone decent to play alongside Rooney. And of course, a right winger.
Him going, if the money is used wisely, could make us far better than with him at the club.

I think its the right time to sell..they have had a few good seasons out of him now and its a good time to cash in

if Real are daft enough to pay the money, then take it

you can use it to strengthen the team overall...that sort of money will buy you 2 or 3 top of their game players which can add more to the team as a whole

it will also release Rooney to play in his right position.

United are a bigger than a single player..who on his day was brilliant, but also on the wrong day was a liability, sulky, bad tempered and contributing nothing to the team

and I'm a sunderland fan with no united leanings...I cant see how its bad for them at all

I will be glad to see the back of the pouting perma tanned prima donna
